Tell us about yr R1/gsxr thou

gunhand, Jun 16, 6:28pm
Ive ridden both, the R1 was slightly more comfortable than a 08 gixxer I rode. Couldnt wait to get off the Gixxer. The R1 wasnt as quick as I thought it would have been. Depends on your age rank and current state of body degradation.
Oh and I rode the suposedly wild 04 ZX10, again wasnt that impressed with it.

Liked the R1 but not really my riding style. Swapped with a mate and was happy to get back on my Z with it's upright bars and lower pegs. Not the sort of bike I would be comfortable riding round the South Island for a week trip

Own a 07 gsxr1000. Havent ridden a r1 before so cant compare but.

Gsxr is predictable, neutral handling (with good tyres), and has a slipper clutch which has done wonders for me in the last 2 years! 185hp standard is more than a handful and still keeps me happy now. Brakes I feel could be a bit better though.

Its quite a comfortable position for a superbike. I commute most days (only 6km each way) and have no problems with the comfort. The seat is a bit thin and you can really feel it after an hour or so. The comfortable position starts to kick you in the ass after about 2 hours riding.

If I were you I would test ride both bikes you are interested in (presuming you are legally allowed to) and make your own decision based on comfort, grin factor, and styling/colours that you like the most. One main reason I chose my bike was because it was special edition and had the best colour scheme Id ever seen.

And also depending on how new you are looking at! As the 07 gsxr has adjustable rear sets from standard. That is quite a biggy on these sorts of bikes. If you dont like the position and you have to fork out for adjustable rear sets, your normally looking at a cool $500+.

Suzuki just dont do good brakes do they, well not in the last 10 years at least. I had a Busa and it was appaling in the braking department, mate has a 07 andit and you might as well use ya foot. Another mate has a SV1000 and not alot better. Had a zx14, man it new how to stop.
Now own a 94 GSX1100f and it has better brakes than many new bikes, go figure.

Not kidding at all, just find suzuki lacking in brakes on there later bikes, they tell even the new Busa wasnt much better. Are your race bike brakes stock.Apparently braided lines help about abit as cheapish fix.

A slipper clutch is invaluable on the streets. When decelerating and down changing it stops the rear from slipping out beneath you.

Hell yes, been years since I had a bike on Teratonga, and that was a katana 1100 I raced.
Sure, if your aggresive with the brakes they do indeed work but ive just found them lacking.I dont want to be tossed over the bars either but on the other hand dont want to have to pull like hell and wait for it to happen either. Ive ridden many many bikes of all sorts and just find Suzuki not as good as others. As do my mates with Suzukis. Hell one guy is so paranoid about his brakes it gets in the way of the ride. but as I said my older Suzuki has better brakes than my supposed 300kph Busa did.
Even the mags comment on them.
The 14 had outstanding brakes and easy to use.

'invaluable on the streets' yeah if ya can;t ride!
I've an 02 GSXR1000 good for mid 10 seconds 1/4 mile goes bloody hard for a 9 year old bike, definately gives the newer ones a run for their money in a straight line. Haven't ridden any others in the same manner so wont comment on handling. Braking, same 4 pot calipers as the early Busas, fckn shithouse when thrashed, they don;t last two laps around a track, went soft after the first lap at manfield. If I were to keep it I'd upgrade the brakes. I'm about to list it on here this w.e if you're keen to get an older one.

Make sure you have a good blast on a Fireblade before you make your final decision.

So your trying to tell me that you have premonitions of when cars pull out infront of you. Or when you come accross that herd of sheep around the blind corner!
