or the classic, must sell as going overseas. the trader reads this and creams himself asking, you wanna swap my moto bike, lada and a goat for your .you get the idea eh

Ain't that the truth!A large proportion of those sorts of auctions quickly reveal that they are open to swaps in Q&A, so its BS.Why anyone would state they are in a hurry to sell and going OS is one of lifes great mysteries, all that does is invite a heap of low offers at the last minute. It defies all logic.

seems obligatory nowadays to give a detailed reason why you want to sell the car
if you dont state the exact reasoning behind your decision it can be assumed the car is about to explode and uses more fuel than the space shuttle

my favorite is people looking at an auction for a car over 4 liters and asking how much fuel does it use
1. google it for an honest answer
2. the seller will always say "not much actually"
3. if you want a car that does 20km/l buy a 1.3 corolla if you want a car that goes fast or has a little luxury be prepared for it to use a little more fuel

I think it's buyer driven, I've often been asked the reason why I'm selling.

kcf, Jun 14, 12:47pm
Q " What's your lowest price!"

A "What's *your* highest price!"

Never works, but man it is tempting to do that as a reply to people.

My personal favourite buyer request - "I need a car by the weekend. I will give you (insert half your buy now price here) cash". Yeah right. You shaould have started looking for new car weeks ago.

The Yanks have a term for these people which is appropriate. "Lowballers"

1 had a set of recaros listed for two weeks for $200, one guy offered me $150 cash both weeks and i turned it down. third listing he said ' this is the third week advertised, and no takers, i will give you $150". howabout this is the third week you have tried to buy them for $150 and i have declined, you cant buy a set for $150 so why don't you budge to $200. I still have the seats but i would rather give them to a mate than sell them to some tight arse.

loved those customers when i had my shop, i'd retort back "double the price& half off." lol

richardmayes, Jun 14, 3:35pm
In some parts of the world, people call this sort of thing "bartering".

Just saying "no" is always an option!

sr2, Jun 14, 3:43pm
LOL, I'm tempted to give it a try! I think many car purchasers are are so scared of buying a lemon that they are looking for answers such as "we are upgrading" to make them feel more confidant with the transaction.

Everybody is selling their stuff because they cannot afford to keep it and need the cash as soon possible to pay the debt collector. I quite often watch classifieds for motor bikes and wait for the price drop or must sell going overseas and come in with the stupidly low offer with no bargainingI have picked up some good bargains with this method.

gunhand, Jun 14, 5:58pm
I seen one who was selling to help pay for gear for the new baby they had. but willing to swap for a dirt bike, yeeeaaaa.

chris_051, Jun 14, 7:58pm
It has worked many times with me as a cash buyer. For most things automotive, it IS a buyers market. If the dreamers are only willing to drop '400 bux' no worries I'll go and look at the 2 dozen identical cars for sale on TM and try my luck. They most probably won't get an offer that high again. Been there done that as a buyer and seller.
As they say your first offer is usually the best.

mrcat1, Jun 14, 8:25pm
I was always taught if your going to offer cash it is on the spot with it in your hand waving it under their nose, i sometimes will ring and ask what their cash price is, i never text and ask, But i would only do that if i was serious about buying it.But I always go in and make sure i always look scruffyand that i wouldn't have 2 cents to rub together, i love then pulling out a big wad of notes and counting out what they want, the look on some off their faces is just priceless.

brodie64, Jun 13, 4:57pm
I think you will find that they mean to emphasizethe word "today" and not so much the word "cash". in hopes that the person they are making the offer too is selling "whatever" for the purpose of obtaining "quick" cash or that they are desperate for the money. That's my take on it anyway.
