Depends on how old you are talking about, the Mark 3/4/5 are very different cars

The one I am looking at is a late 1999.How do you tell the difference between the models

99 should be a Mark 4.

Would make a pretty nice daily driver but by that time didn't really qualify as a hot hatch.Fuel economy should be pretty good.

same engine goes into audi TTs etc etc, with states of tune from 180 to 225bhp - and it's mostly just chip tuning. These engines have a huge aftermarket performance industry now.

Ours is a mk 5 with a apr performance package ,might take it to the drags and scare some jap imports.

Here Scotty I think you lost these.

Yer, the prices in NZ are robbery.I buy from SA where they are made and even with shipping it way cheaper.Fitted so many into beach buggies too as they are bullet proof. VWs all the way!

I've recently purchased a 2000 Golf GTi (Mark 4). If you have a search of the board these is some information in there. Did some hunting around and looked at a few cars.

I love mine - it's a manual and a great drive.
