Changing from cof to wof

I tried to do this once with a bus I converted into a camper. Basically it's up to Land Transport to de rate your chassis GVM and once this is done you can just take it to any WoF issuing agent and once it passes a inspection it will be converted. But if you don't have Land Transport do their part first then the AVI wont be able to get the online to respond to your plate.

you can't sorry, you're stuck with the manufacturer's GVM unless you can pursuade the manufacturer to reduce their GVM (which isn't going to happen).

The heavy bus to camper conversion is a totally different kettle of fish.

I started the job but sold the bus before I completed it. But the short of it was, I talked to LTNZ (back then) to get a 6m coaster with a GVM of 12000kg changed to a GVM of 3500kg the tare weight loaded ready to go was only 2300kg over the weigh bridge so 3500kg was realistic and the bus was changing from PSV to K class so they didn't see any issues with the change and all I had to do is fill out the paper work. you on the other hand only want to drop 50kg I dropped 8500kg I cant see it being too much of an issue unless things have changed in 2 years. worth a shot

Now I'm trying to change my van from a NA (goods vehicle) to a MB (passenger vehicle) to save myself $50 a year on rego lol so I'll be ringing Land Transport again too

ask at the place you get the paper work done-- just fill out the form.

Yea been ticking the Passenger box since I got the van and they never change it so I guess it has to come from LT them self. I'm an AVI and cant get into any online screens that let me change the class and our other branch dose relicensing and also can't change the vehicle class. So to the top it is

I think you can have it de-rated by an engineer! Im not sure how the late model LWB hiaces get around this, as they have a GVM of a little over 5000kg from the factory, but you see heaps de-rated to 4500 so they can be driven on a car license

Engineers can only do heavy vehicles over 3500kg.Original poster is attempting to derate a heavy down to a light.Very different scenario from what you describe, which is derating from one heavy, to remain heavy.

our van was only 5kg over,, and there was no way to get it changed 2 years ago.
