Demerits for using a cell phone

dream_catcher, Jun 8, 6:43pm
well yesterday got pulled over for check point. all clear, but today I was silly and used cell while driving. I usually use a handsfree bluetooth but was in a different car. No excuse. I accept the fine but was also told by a friend I would get 20 demerit points. does anyone know if this is true.

thanks

Do you get demerit points for going through an orange light!

lugee, Jun 8, 7:28pm
Orange lights are for going through. If you couldn't stop reasonably safely when the light went orange then you can go through it.

i got a ticket last week the pricks

Only the largest single allocation of demerit points for an offence arising from a single incident are recorded. So that scenario will actually only get you 50 demerits against your license (for the speeding).

Easier just to obey the law full stop

saxman99, Jun 9, 6:27am
How do you mean!

johnf_456, Jun 9, 8:18am
You don't get any D points or fines full stop if you obey the law, pretty simple.

saxman99, Jun 9, 8:22am
Not in my experience, but you feel free to carry on believing that.

johnf_456, Jun 9, 8:33am
So you get D point out of the blue now do we, for doing nothing.

saxman99, Jun 9, 8:36am
Yep, sure do.

crzyhrse, Jun 9, 8:38am
Yep. Seen it first hand on a few occasions myself too. They make it uneconomic to fight for what is right.

Been done twice through no fault of my own as well, just petty cops striving to get their points for how many "contacts" they can get. BTW, did you know that the revenue collected from traffic infringements would payfor roughly half the roading Police budget. (It varies a bit but its roughly around that figure)

saxman99, Jun 9, 9:52am
I'm gratified that you think that's funny.

crzyhrse, Jun 9, 10:21am
He's clearly a bit simple.

saxman99, Jun 9, 10:31am
"You may very well think that, but of course I couldn't possibly comment."

johnf_456, Jun 9, 11:12am
So what are you suggesting, we all get fines and d points for nothing. Yes there is the odd corrupt cop but nine times out of ten police respect who obey the law and with some of the attiudes they deal with can you blame them. Deal with morons all day and it would get to you after a while.

crzyhrse, Jun 9, 11:13am
Yep. A bit simple alright.

Do you still believe in the tooth fairy !

trogedon, Jun 9, 1:28pm
I pulled my son's loose tooth out last night.which is going to make ME the tooth fairy soon!
Glad to see there are d points for cellular phone use while driving.

johnf_456, Jun 9, 2:13pm
Whats so hard to understand that breaking the law results in fines and D points, never had a single fine or D point ever. There has to be a reason, or do you believe in santa!

Yup some people hate the fact that someone enforces what they do wrong.
