Which would you believe ?

Have TOM TOMwhich shows current speed

Have car with speedometer.

Speedo says 100kms/hr - - - Tom tom says 93 kms/hr

and when Tomtom says 100kms/hr then speedo says 109 kms/hr.

At 50 kms/hr both read about the same.

Problem is, if I do 100 according to the Tomtom then I overtake everything else on the road.

Is tomtom more accurate or reliable than the speedo !

my garmen is only1k out at 100 and the same or sometimes 1k at 50 ps my car has digital display

Compared to ! !

get a secound gps and see if both read the same speed.
the odometer does become more inaccurate the faster the speed gets at 200kmh you be doing 186 when it was 4 k wrong at 50.

Good thinking.Got a spare LOL. !

Sounds normal has most cars do over read (you are going faster than what speedo states), so get another gps to check even your good old smart phone will be able to tell you. Has manufacturers play on the caution side so people don't get tickets accidentally. I'd trust the gps more.

not this weekend but i normaly set cruise on 110 and garmen says 109 and cops never bother me this weekend car 105 garmen 104 but couldnt use cruise as traffic was all doin 90 to 100 and passing at 104 is impossible

rojill, Jun 8, 9:28pm
I'm beginning to think that the speedo reads high and the gps is more accurate.

phillip.weston, Jun 8, 9:29pm
GPS is more accurate. Most speedos will over-read, usually about 5-7% faster.

rojill, Jun 8, 9:30pm
As much as that !

3tomany, Jun 8, 9:30pm
whats the car and does it have original tire size

I'd be tempted to trust the Tomtom over the car speedo. I've checked my Tomtom against the Terratrip in our Rally Car (well calibrated over a known distance) and found it to be spot on if, and only if I'm travelling at a consistant speed on a straight road. Most cars appear to read under; my work van is only doing 104 km/hr when the speedo is reading 110 km/hr (handy!) and yes you do seem to be traveling faster than many of the other cars on the motorway.

rojill, Jun 8, 9:32pm
So my speedo reads about 9 % faster than actual.

2000 Odessy face lift 2.3 . Don't know what original tyre size is or was. . Is ex jap. Near new tyres on front

Depends on car as well.My Camry's speedo reads well over what I am actually doing whereas the Caldina is spot on.I know for a fact that the Caldina is on standard wheels. the Camry. no Idea just 14" steelies.Verified by GPS, those roadside speed indicators and the occasional officer.

rojill, Jun 8, 9:39pm
Nope . pretty straight. Just a boring old farts set of wheels !

I checked my Navman using a timed run over a known distance in a straight line and it was spot-on. The speedo was 9k's under true.Even a brand-new S-Class Merc reads 3k's under.
