Got a 96 prado auto, its not changing gear smoothly just seems real clunky in the gear changes, I've had the trans flushed but it did absoloutly nothing. Any ideas on what else it could be! Also it doesn't seem to pull as hard as I would expect, once at 140-145kms (on a private road) it just won't go any faster. Just cant rev any further out that 3000rpm. I've changed the fuel and air filters recently, including the pick up filter in the tank but nothing has made a difference. Combined with that it's drinking quiet abit of fuel, 75ltrs will do about 650ks and compared to mates ones that are getting 750ks out of the same ammount it doesn't seem right. And its hard to start cold, but I think thats just crook glow plugs. If any one could shed any light I would be very greatfull. Cheers.

Time for a leakdown / compression test methinks

Can't comment on the transmission problem without seeing the vehicle, but as for the engine lacking power, I would be looking at the exhaust system first. Might have a blocked catalytic converter (if it has one), or one of the mufflers.

Can't help thinking that somethings amiss with the injector pump or the electronics associated with it, is there any smoke occuring after hot startup or under load etc!Firstly I'd get the glow plugs checked and replaced if needed as you are going to have to do that anyway, especially coming into winter, and while you're at it do a compression test just to be sure theres no issues there. And then get a diagnostic scan done to see if a sensor isn't playing up, if you are having to use wider than normal throttle openings for some reason that may well be the cause of harsh gearshifts.Bear in mind some vehicles also have diesel prefilters in the pump inlet, make sure this isn't restricted either.

Is, or has, the engine check lamp been on at all! I had a bit of grief with mine, but more at the idle end of the throttle movement. Turned out to be a partially stuck open EGR valve. Once your engine is sorted you may well find the transmission problem is resolved too.
