The RD400 twins were a shock to motorcycling, wen they came out they made XJ900s/CB900s look fat an slow, the big tourers had to up their game. RD400s killed alot of people. One shape RD had wat was called a "coffin" shaped tank,, My one was raced up with chambers an some other bits

no i havnt any of them anymore, although i see my old 500 dollar one on kiwibiker in the classics forum,i sold the minter about 6-7 years ago to someone in dunedin for $13500 i think, the whole time i owned that one i did next to no kms on it cause it was so original. i had an mvx250 when i was working in a honda shop back then and did a heap of kms on it with no problems,it used to melt the top of plugs though on a long run but luck of the draw i never holed the pistons

They only did that if you didn't know what your doing, i had one with no issues at all, pistons or plugs never melted, used Castrol TT 2 stroke oil from memory and had increased all the jet sizes, from memory the middle(back) cylinder had a 5 point bigger main jet then the other outside 2 cylinders. I increased them all by 25 points, it ran a bit rich but went like a scalded cat. I also had a 500 Kawasaki Widow maker, can't remember the model, there was a 350,500 and a 1000, all 2 stroke triples. it was a real handful on a wet road.

RG500 here (now a 400 due to an engine explosion), and a RD350LC, adn another LC in bits from when I used to race it. And a 2 stroke 50cc scooter for going to work which does more miles than the others combined. I want to get another RG400 motor, as i have another complete rolling chassis with RGV250 front end and wheels- be nice to have it running.

Ahh the X7 my first bike, could keep up with my mate on his RG250 round town but he'd get away on the open road. A mate had an RZ250, I was aways jealous, another mate has just got his RG400 back on the road after about 12-13 yrs in the shed he's loving every minute of it

Ive owned rg250s and a couple of rg400s The best one I owned was a modded rg400 English import, She had a great power-band. Once you have had a two stroke you never go back, They could start producing them again using the Evinrude ETEC technology if the wanted, Those marine engines pass all the emission laws.

Threw a rod through the cases (front left cylinder. Managed to salvage the gearbox and sidecovers. Lots of goodies for sale and Karl's RG500,com site (can recommend him) for them. If anyone has a spare RG400 motor, let me know, then I can get my spare rolling chassis going as well.

Had many way back, ranging from a Zundapp 50 to a Suzuki T500 Titan. The most memorable was the CZ250MX, the noise from the expansion chamber had the locals spewing.

Too common! maybe see one on the road once every 4 or 5 yrs, hardly common and becoming rarer, that said haven't seen a NS400 in a long time

That's what I mean. Extremely common for a collectable. But my NS isn't.

2 strokes have reed valves or rotating valves (eg KR250).
