I need a few facts on engine oil.Just done a filter and oil change using genuine honda oil and filter.i used their HP4 10w30oil but noticed it was packaged by caltex for Honda. Im assuming that I can buy the same oil in different packaging for half the price.I paid $80for 4 litres and I am not complaning as I want to use the best oil but like all of us if I can buy an equivilent or better product for less then I will.I am riding the bike in western australia and would of thought a 10w40 was more in order as it isnt that cold.
My handbook states an sg or higher sae 10w40 with no graphite or molybdenum additives.
Please I only want facts

Stick to proper motorcycle oil, don;t be tempted to buy a cheaper car oil as your bike has a wet clutch and as your handbook says, no graphite or moly additives as they will harm the clutch. But you do not have to buy Honda oil either, other brands specified for motorcyles are fine, A couple that springs to mind are Spectro oils ( they make nothing but bike oils and are available from most bike shops) or castrol make a good oil for bikes also, active 4t it is called.

I always run Castrol 4TGPS in my bikes. It is a proper bike oil and I usually pay about $60 for a 4ltr. KFX438, Z750 and ER6n all been on it with no problems.

My Honda doesn't use any oil.

my Honda doesnt use any oil either but basic maintenance can save you a heap, the cost of a regular oil and filter change is nothing compared to a motor overhaul.
Thanks guys, appreciate any other tips as well, been a while since I owned a bike and really loving it, will ask at the bike shop next time and not send the wife.
Will need a replacement rear tyre soon, any ideas
