APPRENTICE MECH. CHARGE OUT RATES

pugmyre, Jun 5, 10:32am
I'd like to know if $61.75 is the normal charge out rate for a second year apprentice mechanic!

crzyhrse, Jun 5, 10:35am
I was charged out at full workshop rate from the day I started. But I was worth it.

Nicely put.^

pugmyre, Jun 5, 11:30am
We got charged $600-00 all up, (6 hrs labour) to do sump gasket and front crank seal on a Honda Engine 1600cc.

loonee-dial-111, Jun 5, 12:27pm
Sounds reasonable

crzyhrse, Jun 5, 1:04pm
Sounds pricey and slow to me. $100/hr incl. GST. and 6 hours to do a sump gasket and crank seal!

crzyhrse, Jun 5, 1:10pm
Not for a front seal.

crzyhrse, Jun 5, 1:12pm
Oh, yeah, I neglected the parts - I just skimmed.

But 6 hour's labour. nah. A one-armed man could do it in 6 hours. On pretty much anything.

carmedic, Jun 5, 1:41pm
It probably actually includes a timing belt on a 1600 Honda.
I think it sounds cheap.
I??

strobo, Jun 5, 2:07pm
(quote =strobo) Agreed, someare labour intensive & may have been steam cleaning & sundriesextra , no 2 vehicles are the same , like one poster said it is a reasonable charge, though we do not know the actualdetails of work done.

pugmyre, Jun 5, 2:38pm
No guys.It doesn't include timing belt, w/pump etc, as these were changed four weeks prior. Then front seal started to leak, so decided to do that and sump gasket at the same time.Nearly $400-00 for first job, seals and sump gasket etc (no g/box removal needed, type of car - rover 416 powered by a 1600cc Honda B16y3) nearly $600-00 for 2nd job.

strobo, Jun 5, 3:14pm
Have yougot a break down on cost of actual parts! as genuine parts can be expensive , why wasnt the front seal done with the timing belt in the first place !they have had to strip the front end off againfor this!im confusedwith the$400(timing belt kit!) for theist job & $600 (seals leaking ) odd for 2nd job, something does not gel! You need accountability to have a fair perspective on the job done.
If yas dont have the parts itemized , please go back to thegarage & request it from them.

pugmyre, Jun 5, 4:26pm
Ist job done, (we supplied cambelt) W/pump, adjusters, rocker cover seal and 4 hrs labour was $400-00.2nd job, sump gasket $54-00, seal $33-00, oil filter $18-00, spark plug seals $23-00, misc $20-00 and 6hrs labour $370-00.We supplied oil for 2nd job.All parts purchased by them came from Repco.

strobo, Jun 5, 5:08pm
4hrs for thefirst job@ $400
6hrs forthe 2nd job @ $ 370
see the discrepancy with this! & would you know why!have you asked them about this! yet charged $600 all up for labour you say earlier

pugmyre, Jun 5, 5:27pm
Sorry strobo.Slight misunderstanding.Total cost was $400-00 for ist job with labour being $250-00.The rest was as previously stated.

strobo, Jun 5, 5:32pm
minus parts on second job comes to $452

strobo, Jun 5, 5:32pm
ok i see it now

strobo, May 11, 1:50am
The difference $150 is prob written in gst etc, all seems about right to me , sorry later reply ,we had power outage here in our area , #8Abit pricey & i tend to agree with himhow ever.should be an hourly rate stated on your invoice. assuming 61.75 is correct!
