I'd tell them where they can stick it, I'm not getting a new exhaust on the commie or my weekend car.

It's not such a bad idea if they set realistic limits.I'd love to catch some boy racers with bloody loud exhausts, and those bloody Harley monsters blatting up the road hurts my ears, and you can hear them for miles.

Nah keep it away. ill have to change exhausts on my motorbike if i get stung by one of those. But easy enough to go up another gear when I see a cop coming and keep em happy

As much as I object to obnoxiously noisy vehicles you can't do an objective noise test in different uncontrolled environments.
Love this comment Wow I think Bubb Rubb and Lil' Sis just set black people back 80 years. ?

Thats a awesome idea, as long as its done to the blatantly loud ones and not the average joe blogs. Around our area at night you can hear some of them blocks away. Its something that needs looking into for sure but there needs to be some good dicussion on it though so people are unfairly ticketed. Would do wonders for some crazy motorcycle drivers around here.
Hopefully someone suggests it to them, I got a few contacts who could pass it on so might look ask them.

The police don't know what fair is, backfires and allsorts can set it off as it takes a peak reading. Look at speeding, it's just at total control freak point now. We get sound testing at puke racetrack and stuff for the racecars and I've been as low as 88 and high as 95 with the same exhaust, engine, at the same revs, at the same distance cause background noise and microphone variation means it varies a lot.
Sound is measure of energy per unit of area, it's logarithmic so that is why there is a heavy increase from 80 to 90. Given this and the fact they use some pretty trick gear at pukekohe from time to time to test and still have large variation I can't see it working. Unlike a speed camera how close you are to the unit, background noise, wind noise and amount of other cars in the area making noise all contribute. Knowing NZ lawmakers they would impose a limit that would land up being pressed onto people that don't deserve it. What if someone honks a horn and it snaps them yet the police press the ticket anyway! I don't trust NZ to use this kinda thing correctly till they sort out some of the silly nazi policing they impose now.

Same here as long has its done right it should be fine, boyracers and motorcyclists one would be my targets
loose.unit8,
Jun 4, 4:41pm
Why shouldn't it apply to all motorists instead of just the ones which fit your prejudices
johnf_456,
Jun 4, 4:42pm
Hopefully you are not the sort that drive around like a manic with no consideration for others max it out every gear making a racket at anytime of day disturbing everyone that can hear it a block or 2 away.
johnf_456,
Jun 4, 4:43pm
It would apply to them but boy racers and motorcyclists are ones that often to see loud exhausts. Nanas, mums and dads don't have loud exhausts, so everyone! SO its not my prejudices but the ones making the racket are the target obviously.

Go away john FFS. I'm a "DAD", i'm 42 so i'm not a boy racer and my ute has a louder than standard exhaust. So where do i fit in! idiot.
johnf_456,
Jun 4, 4:50pm
Thats not a problem has long its not blantly loud like a teenage boyracer keeping people awake at night etc You know the sort, I have no problem with slightly louder exhaust as long its legal there is no issue. (we check exhaust noise at wof's).
And it is also johnf_456, so yeah I don't have a problem with you been a dad as I doubt you are like some of the wanks we have on the road that making utter racket and disturbing everyone else.
