which do you prefer! im looking at getting 45s for my pinto

It is hard to get a good supply of new Dellorto jets and venturis. For that reason Weber is a better choice.
Also: twin 40s would be better on a road going Pinto IMHO. Twin side drafts on any road car is a PITA though. A single 45 or 48 would be choice.
I would strongly recommend you look for a set of carbs that already have as many of the jets and venturis that you wish to run. It gets very expensive changing them

You will get better torque from a smaller carb, but at a slight disadvantage at very high revs.

sweet so 40s onto my 2.0 pinto then haha

That is what I would do if you are desperate for twins. 42s would be sweet if they show up at a good price and the butterflys are OK. The rest of the parts on 42s are the same as 40s.
A pair of 45s would be fine, just not quite as crisp at medium revs as 40s. You can choke the 45s down with small venturis but it probably won't be quite as good as the 40s
A full re-jet on a single carb could be $400 and you will need to regularly balance twins. That is why I am a fan on a single carb on a road motor, but nothing beats the sound of twins when they are set up right

i have twin dellorto 40's on my pinto, it's true about the parts. i also have a turbo set up im going to sell it's a mitsi gsr rwd turbo with intercooler and throttle body type fuel injection mounted onto a pinto intake, with mitsi ecu and ignition it even runs the mitsi distributor so the ecu can retard and advance timeing etc. i was going to use it on my motor but i now have a siera cosworth engine to go in. my motor with carbs and sierra box will be for sale soon to. in fact if you (or anyone) buys the engine they can choose twin 40's or injection turbo intercooler. if you are interested i can start a auction next week. when i get home from the capri club agm at taupo.

I'd disagree about parts. If you have trouble finding anything local then order online from dellorto.co.uk. Easy peasy.
Advantage of dellorto over weber is no faffing about with soft mount rings.

Wont matter wat carbis you put,its how they get tuned that matters. A dyno graph can show ok linear lines across it and still have hidden bad over rich spots and over lean spots, all hidden wen the next jet in the carbi opens.I,d rather have a keen laptop user tune a ECU.

I agree, the only thing with the Webers is that if someone is tuning them for you and you don't know exactly what jets you need then sure they may have a bigger range of Weber bits themselves. However if you know pretty much what you need then the Delorto's are fine. actually they would even be my preference. Incidentally, I run Solex's on the Alfa because you can pick them up for practically nothing and everyone thinks you can't get bits for them, which is not the case at all. If you don't know exactly what jets etc you need this is nota good idea, O.K for me where they were a factory fitment (also came with Weber and Dellorto depending on availability) because I don't have to get extra jets and much around experimenting

What issues do the weber soft mounts cause! Just fitted 2 new webers to my engine and weird things are happening at low rpms.

Good point on the venturis, I had to do some general sorting, adapting and tweaking to get mine going nicely too. But when the budget it tight and you have some time on your hands they can be a great option for a fraction of the price.
Incidentally, my home made manometer with 4 pickups is absolutely fantastic for balancing. Combined with my Gunson Colortune setting and maintenance is a breeze.

I'm wondering which carbs I should go for too. Started a thread last night and was initially thinking of using a Cortina Weber 32/36 on my Nissan GA16DS.but then I did some googling and came across this: http://www.manifolds.co.za/index.php!option=com_zoo&task=item&item_id=52&Itemid=2 What size and brand would people in the know recommend! Cheers peeps;)
