Legal owner and the registered owner of a motor vehicle! And . how is the status of each determined! I ask becoz of a post on here a couple of days ago about someone buying then selling on a car that had $ owing on it by someone else! Both terms 'registered' and 'legal' were mentioned and apparently did not have to be the same person.

Legal owner = registered owner & NO finance registered owner = Name on the reg papers Legal owner can also be who legallypayed for/ currently suppliedlegal finance on that vehicle & part or whole payment is still outstanding

No. Legal owner is only he who has a receipt for the purchase. Registered owner means nothing except who is responsible by default for traffic violations not issued to a driver i.e. parking, speed camera, red light camera.

There's nothing to nitpick. Registered ownership has absolutely nothing to do with legal ownership whatsoever.

it's pretty basic. the Rigistered owner, is the person who gets sent the bills for licensing, and speed camera /parking tickets.
The legal owner, is the person who ACTUALLY OWNs the vehicle.
you can be the registered owner without having any legal right to, or having any finacial interst in the vehicle,
