Hi there. I'm looking for an intercooler for a custom build. It's to be used as a radiator for additional cooling. A small one is required. I've seen one on an auction but don't know what type of vehicle it comes off of and the picture has nothing to give me reference for sizing. I know it's a Mitsubishi but not the model.

Auction number: 377938109

The cooler I need is one similar to this one. Small and with both entry and exit on the same side. Can anybody assist with what vehicle this is off of and/or let me know what other vehicles I can look at!

Thanks.

It says in the auction that its off a rvr.

Please tell me that one unanswered question on that auction is you asking about sizing.I'm sure that the seller could locate a rule, and its probably more accurate than a message board guessing the size for you.

Nope, been busy and didn't have the chance to ask that one. Will do so now, thanks for the heads up.

a sporty looking version of a mitsi chariot. bit shorter in body length and usually has 4G63 engines i think

Appreciate that. So, if I was to go to a wrecker and ask for one off of a Mitsi rvr they would know what I'm after then!

more than likely, not sure how common the turbo versions are in these vehicles, philip.weston can probably give you loads of info about it.

That 1 at a guess, would be about .
300mm to 400mm long excluding framing
200mm to 300mm high
60mm thick

Plus or minus 100mm either way
Will probably have 50mm or 60mm pipes

Your biggest problems could well be SPACE to fit the cooler where you want & then correct pipe size.

i have one about that size up to nothing in my shed. i could list it.

my one is off a turbo diesel delica 'spacegear'

that intercooler is off an RVR Super Sports Gear, from 1993 through to 1996. There's a few of them around, about a dozen for sale on trademe currently, so that would mean many have already found their way into wreckers or scrap yards by now. I would also check out a 2.5 or 2.8 Pajero and L400 Delica top mount intercooler as they would be a similar size and pipe orientation I think.

Appreciate the help.

"2.5 or 2.8 Pajero" yep look very similar but suspect to be a bit bigger.

mrfxit, May 28, 7:08am
Measure it up & post the sizes ;-)
Might have a sale there .

Will save as a favourite seller. Gisborne may be prohibitive for freight though. Thanks.

seeing you want use it as a radiator, why not use a radiator from a water cooled motorbike!

biteme, May 28, 8:17am
Too expensive, too thin, prone to damage from flicking stones. I believe the intercooler is thicker.

Top mount off a 4A-GZE!Both inlet and outlet are on the same side and I don't recall them being massive.

I'm just a visitor to "Motoring" and don't know the relative prices yet. Therefore, I suggest you make an offer that your co posters would approve of and will not see you derided in scorn :) Obviously, I'd make a small offer being cheeky or a large offer being overly generous. The best price is a reasonable one.

phillip.weston, May 28, 5:28pm
I would say around $20-40, there just isn't huge value in them as people bin them in favour of bigger (factory) intercoolers. E39A VR-4 and early Evo intercoolers which were once sought after are now as little as $60 for a good one.

I would be a little hesitant in using an air to air intercooler as a water to air radiator. An air to air intercooler is designed to cool a gas with a low specific heat quotient, at a relatively high flow with a low heat differential. A water to air radiator is designed to cool a liquid with a high specific heat quotient at a slower flow but a much higher heat differential. I??

Could you run scoops/airflow ducting to the rear radiator!
Another idea is to use an RS Legacy water to air intercooler with a small radiator!

$20 would own it- let me know if u want it and ill create a listing
