hullo, i know "nothing" about cars and kave just brought a 1988 mitsi mirage which idles rather high (1500rpm) does anyone know how to wind this badboy back! A mate told me there will be a screw on the carb but he's no car genius either and i cant see one any suggestions! Thanks!

There should be a large plastic screw on the carb with a slot for a screwdriver. It will also be possible to turn it by hand as it has 'grips' on the edges'. I wouldnt rush to change the idle speed though, as unless someone else has changed it this way previously, there is probably another reason for the high idle. I would check for vacuum leaks around hoses and inlet manifold. Also check for sticking cables and also that the throttle cable is still firmly in place at the firewall.ie, where the rubber grommet is.because if its loose there will be stuff all tension on it, leading to high idling.
I did it on my 87 Mirage a week or so ago, theres was like a small yellow plastic tap thing I turned behind the carburattor that adjusted the revs, not quite sure if thats how you are ment to do it, but it worked, as it over ran a bit once I turned the key off

Are you sure you didn't adjust the fuel mixture!

I may of, but it made it go better, as its been running a bit rough, it has another carburattor on it now which is why it had to be adjusted., so pays not to take my advice danny

Alot of that stuff is easy to check yourself. Check for obvious cracks in any hoses around the manifold and carb. With the engine running, spray some CRC around the inlet manifold and see of the idle changes. Follow the throttle cable from the carb to the firewall and make sure its secure. Also possible that the cable has stretched, which again will mean no tension.

Bet it's got a vacuum leak.
