Everyone will tell you what they've got is the best.
I've got a passport 8500, and its the best.
But seriously, if you want a good one be prepared to pay over a grand for it.
Dont bother with a cheap one, it'll just get you into more trouble.

valentine 1, passport 8500 and the newer 9500. Beltronics GX65 is supposed to be quite good from what i have heard. Its also a case of how you use it too and the the types of radar. Ka band is most used here, however speed cameras may use K band. Instant on radar is what will generally get you as there is pretty much no reaction time if you are the lead vehicle/only vehicle on the road

My Valentine is 10 years old and still fine.I no longer speed as much as I used to but I still it use for detecting speed traps - such as at the end of passing lanes.Instant on is, as above, difficult to detect.Impossible, if you are the lead car.In my long-distant commuting days I used to sit behind a faster car (800 m) on, for example, SH 27.On Friday nights, you could always count on some salesman in his Holden or big Ford wanting to rush to Auckland. My Valentine proved its worth!Had a Bell before the Valentine and still prefer the latter.

I think it's under $1000.00

i would rather pass a truck/trailer load going 75 at 110 and be on the right side of the road instead of hanging around on the wrong side of the road crawling past. head on crash is more dangerous to a life than going over the magic 100 for a short while, even safer in a passing lane where alot of these speed traps are. get out and in fast, in a passing lane too so others can pass as well.

sorry!- *goes off and pays fine for 106kph in passing lane

That's not going to happen in NZ. Too apathetic.

Parallel imports are no different to whats available here.
You can get one from the US, but you'll be smacked with duty and gst.
But, it'll still be cheaper than buying one here.
