out board motor! its got a clip i undone but it wont lift up, is it on a hinge! and ;looks like i needa disconect the choke. how is this done! cheers

lift and , keep tilting itback to clear the pull start, keep going untill it unhooks

yeah but the choke lever comes up through the top of it. does it needa be disonected!

Huh ! cable goes through the top cover ! never seen that before.

Choke usually is set into the cast part of the motor and is clamped to it with a plate and a couple of bolts, the lid usually sits above the choke cable, and all the other cables for that matter.

I remember Dad had a mercury 50hp manual start and it had a choke knob that came up thru the top cover. I seem to remember that it had to be disconnected somehow to get the top cover off, but I can't remember how, sorry.
