After covering the area with tergo, wrap it in gladwrap. This will allow the active ingredients (Methylene chloride) to do it's work before they evaporate. Work/massage the stripper occasionally.
After anything up to 24 hrs. remove the gladwrap & the paint should come off with a wire brush or waterblaster.

Holy F%$k.thats um eernasty.

xacoon, May 25, 8:20pm
oh feck yeh, that is class, that is my type of powertool right there. not much of a substitute for a 30 inch bar, but class all the same.

unclejake, May 25, 9:51pm
I have had three cars blasted (against advice) and one of them was basically destroyed from distortion.

I would never, ever do it again unless you could find a true expert.

Chemical stripping is the way to go IMHO

thejazzpianoma, May 25, 9:57pm
Yes there is something freeking scary about those suckers, great for rough carving out shapes when wood working though.

Mind you, they reckon a tool that scares you is the safest kind. less chance of getting complacent!

Also. its just one of those tools that every Father of Daughters should own. (not that I am one of those yet. but you want to keep future needs in mind)

Gotta agree with you UJ, chemical stripping followed by a dunk in a bath of diluted phosphoric acid not only removes all paint and rust but leaves a light protective coating to tide you over till that first coat of primer.

I just read the thread a bit better SR2 and it sounds like Xacoon is mainly thinking of the engine bay. I would blast an engine bay and the underside of a vehicle again - just not any exterior panels.

I

sr2, May 25, 10:04pm
Point taken, I agree.

whqqsh, May 26, 3:06am
yup, I got a set of wire wheels blasted recently & it looked like theyed used 10,000 psi & steel shot

carppen, May 26, 6:51am
use crushed glass, made from beer bottles.

xacoon, May 26, 5:35pm
I do my part for the environment, I drink from crates and flagons, no wasted glass

xacoon, May 28, 4:10pm
one final question, save starting a new thread. fine or coarse!the toolshed was cheaper than anywhere else for the record.

xacoon, May 28, 4:26pm
righto might have to hunt some of them down then

whqqsh, May 28, 6:13pm
sorry guys, tried doing the gladwrap thing with the Tergo & still no-go, the stuffs sticking like shit to a blanket & if it does lift or bubble its in very small patches & not even a layer if it does

whqqsh, May 28, 6:15pm
guy I knew did his Mustang & managed to get a full panel (or more) per disc as long as he didnt catch too many sharp edges etc

gunhand, May 28, 6:23pm
Your going to have to strip as much away as you can first then. Or get it soda blasted or similer. Some paints just dont want to go lol. How many layers you got to take off!

whqqsh, May 28, 7:28pm
believe it or not, most of what Ive got off is by waterblaster where the paint has started to flake, that which wasnt already sunburnt right off, so some areas are bare panel, others are still solid paint

trogedon, May 28, 7:36pm
That's pretty tough sounding paint. Mechanical stripping then!

whqqsh, May 28, 7:46pm
yup :(

xacoon, May 28, 7:48pm
will keep that in mind pete thanks.

xacoon, Apr 12, 9:42pm
that sounds like the trick for this scotsman.
