Can't say I didn't tell you so months ago. Triumphs = Boat anchor.

You either have an air leak on the induction side and/or the accelerator linkage is binding.

ummm.wow. On an old triumph the fluid he has around will likely be dot4.you're braver than I spraying that stuff around.

getting in there with a can of lighter fluid could be safer - you think, lol

they ate worn. Around Tue throttle spindle. And the spindle themselves. And I don't have 500 to spend on a new set of carbs. It could be one of the problems, and the throttle cables and ballance shaft isn't binding and is slack so isn't that, also the carbs were set via the hex nut under the Carb, tested mix by lifting piston

If you mean they are worn around the spindle, then that would be a source of a leak. Going by memory these are strombergs right.no kits available!
ginga4lyfe,
May 25, 7:17am
some ate strombergs., mine are twin SU, there are overhaul kit available but it would cost the same for new ones from rimmerbros, which I think is rediculas, I would convert to pi but that's almost impossible to find atm
edit: i should stop using my cellphone for this site
ginga4lyfe,

Damn cellphone I'm saying are not ate lol
smac,
May 25, 7:41am
lol.was wondering.
As far as the cost of kits where are you shopping! Are they HS or HIF, and what size!
ginga4lyfe,
May 25, 7:47am
1 3/4 i think! they are hs6's, which should tell you the size anyways, oh and i was looking overseas and in nz, the cheapest i have found was overseas at rimmerbros.co.uk, why they are so expensive is because i dont have the normal hs6's (the audxxx type ) i have the stupid anti tamper one (fzx1263f and fzx1263r types )

Indeed. If you advance notice of something, did you get notice sooner or later than someone who was told after you.

I didn't think those ones were any different as far as servicable parts. Have you tried SUMidel.com (aussie). They're the schnizzle as far as SU's. Looks to me $100ish gets you new spindles and seals. I'm sure an email flicked their way with part numbers will get you some progress.
pfemstn,

carbs ohauled in NZ ok why look overseas, cost $500 as you said, remember how old they are, they will be stuffed in the shafts no doubt about that!

How are your brakes!
I ask, because you may have a leak in the vacuum hose, or the booster-diaphragm.
Good luck, and, stick with theTrumpy, they are a fun vehicle.
pfemstn,
May 25, 10:37am
unfortunately if it was running ok before you decided to lean it up,you probably dont know enough to get them back where they were, did you centralize the jets! did you visually check the seat heights to see they are the same! Su carbs dont respond well to fools! take the car to someone who knows SU.s
ginga4lyfe,
May 25, 11:09am
the brakes are fine, i have checked for leaks and such already, non around the manifold and by the carbs

I dont think i painted a full picture for alot, I got the car with a blown clutch and the choke stuck half on, I got it back to my place, fixed the clutch, then pulled the carbs off to unstick the choke, tore it down to check for wear, put them back on and found they were then back firing, ( I didnt know they needed there air filter box on to work properly ) then i had to pull the head off to fix a core plug leak, reinstalled the head+manifold+ carbs with brand new head gaskets making sure the faces were clean even and flat, I got the car running with the air box on properly, even with the correct mixture and not back firing ( because air box now on )it was fouling plugs, i then found out my supplier was providing me with plugs that were too cool ( was running BP6es should be bp5es) , replaced the plugs with correct ones and did finer tuning to find correct mix, then backed off 1/16th of a turn lean, lean or rich with in that range doesnt reduce idle, during replacement of head i have also replaced plug leads dizzy cap and rotor, Condensor and points, also vacuum advance and base plate,I am now thinking that maybe yes i should take it to a carb specialist, or just get some DCOE's , if i can find them and if they fit that is.

I decided to cut my losses on a "free and unmentionable" website as I don't wunna spend more on it. So thanks all for your helps and advice otherwise

Did you block off the vacuum hose to the ignition when you set the timing!
ginga4lyfe,
May 25, 8:26pm
I set the ign statically , then double checked with the timing light, and yes it was disconnected

I say the carbs as well, I replaced my worn out set (1.25") with a pair of 1.5" that were in much better condition and it was much easier to tune, now 67hp at the wheels for a 1275. The old set had done 100,000 miles.
smac,

You're selling the car for the sake of $100 in parts! .pfft.quitter
ginga4lyfe,
May 26, 8:52am
not just 100 bucks in parts, its all the other things too, I would keep it if I could afford to clog up my driveway and buy another daily, but that's just unreasonable, and I don't have a garage to store it in ATM to stop rust progressing, I have to be honest to myself that I bought the car on a whim thinking it was a good daily and though its running nice now the gearbox is getting louder and rougher, and I definatly can't afford to rebuild or replace stuff like that of it packs up
pfemstn,

its a Triumph mate and its old and in origonal condition,is horrible to work on and hard to get bits for, its going to cost lots to run, you have to be an enthuisist to run one thats for sure! performance parts are very expensive and any general reconditioning seems to be the same.Might pay to quit it if its hurting your budget as its not going to get better! i know from experience but i still love my Trumpy!
