After a family car for the missus, under 10 grand, under 2 litre, 4 door, not to small, low ish k's less than 150. There seem to be a lot to choose and need help narrowing the search.

for $10k I would be looking at something at least 2001 onwards. Forget the plethora of 90s Jap imports, at the end of the day they don't stack up well in regards to features.
I would be going for the tried and true vehicles like the Mazda6 (if the budget could stretch), Ford Mondeo, Honda Accord Euro, VW Passat, Audi A4, Volvo S40/V40, heck even a 2005/2006 Mitsubishi Galant which you could pick up for the price of a 1998 Camry.

Why is that! Mitsubishis that aren't EVOs seem to depreciate faster than Subaru Legacys and seem to offer really good value for money compared to traditional boring offerings.

Had a wander today, and mum wanted the FIRST car we looked at, the good/bad thing is we are probably gonna buy it, 2005 ford mondeo wagon for 9k which after looking around quite a few places seems like a good buy. It was the first place we went to because I got my wagon from the yard a few years ago and the dealer seemed like a pretty good rooster, good basic warranty and good follow up.
