After market springs would be the cheapest way. If it was me I would be looking at shocks and bushes also.especially if they are original.

Can't really say. But if original they would be 13 years old and well worth checking. Lowering is all fine and good.but handling is another story. A good set of shocks and some new good quality bushes in the mix would make a world of difference. Throw in a strut brace and uprated sway bars and you're away laughing. If you go ahead with the springs, usually best to buy and get fitted at the same outfit as it will usually work out cheaper. Plus you have someone to go back to if something isn't right. Nolothane bushes etc from somewhere like Autolign are actually pretty well priced.

buy an FE2 suspension set up from a wreckers, it's what ss, sv6, police etc have, low but not bouncy like some aftermarket springs are.

would this be a safe way to go and would it fit straight in!

FE2 is a good option, as evotime said. alot of the aftermarket spring ride terribly. My ex's VT wagon was transformed from a nice riding vehicle to a pig by Mag & Turbo. not their fault (sort of), the springs they used were shite. They were just too hard. My VP has custom made springs by King. I specially ordered them to get the ride height & spring pressures that I wanted. & they were'nt alot more expensive. Now that thing rides super hard but it has race-valved Konis all round to control the springs. 1000lb fronts & 360lb rears; the front airdam sits 60mm off the ground & has never hit the ground on the open road (it does in drives, service stations & almost everywhere else though)

My VT was apparently professionally lowered, it looks good, but what an uncomfortable ride, you can feel every road surface change and bump in the road, not a smooth ride at all.

I'd agree with getting the FE2 pack, why anybody would want to ruin a nice riding and comfortable car just for the sake of appearance by using aftermarket shyte is beyond me.Remember also with those IRS Commodores if you do it wrong they will chew out back tyres even quicker than what they do normally.

yeah the fe2 pack is a good option and may even work out cheaper.

you need dampers set to suit the springs
its not hard to understand - a smooth ride isnt some magical attribute that only manufacturers can achieve
