Any classic mini fans in Invers?

ladyjet1, May 21, 6:16pm
Heya, just wondering if there is anyone out there who is a mini nut like me.I haven't been in Invers long and don't know my way round parts places (or the damn car for that matter)Is there somewhere here I can get cv boots and the rubber dust cover that goes just behind the hub on the driveshaft!I have to transplant an engine, but the rubbers are gone so want to do them at the same time. this girl is wondering if she's bitten off a bit more than she can chew!

Virtually anyone will be able to supply the CV boots, Repco/BNT/SCA.When you refer to the rubber dust cover behind the hub, is that not the same as the CV boot!Whoever is doing your engine transplant is no doubt capable of changing them.

Do you mean the drive coupling, as in rubber cross thingy (girl talk)

ladyjet1, May 21, 6:53pm
lol, I'm doing it myself!nope, there's the one on the hub end of the driveshaft, and anotheron that skinnyer (girl talk!) arm maybe it'stierod or something!further in towards the engine.

Swift Automotive in CHCH if hes still around. Good chap to deal with

ladyjet1, May 21, 6:54pm
no, I did those on my old mini that I crashed, that's the bits with those U bolts aye!

ladyjet1, May 21, 6:58pm
maybe it's called and inner and outer!Eww that sounds rude - just what I'm reading up on.

jmma, May 21, 7:06pm
May be steering rack boot, that be the inner one on the skinny shaft (girl talk again) (o:

ladyjet1, May 21, 7:11pm
that's it! steering rack boot, and presumable outer cv boot!Means I'll have to take the whole damn driveshaft out I'm guessing when I lift the engine out. so I can get these bits standard from repco or whoever!

ladyjet1, May 21, 7:12pm
thanks, was trying to remember their name for parts, I've heard of them but always used to get my stuff from MiniBitz in Auckland, but I was 900 km closer to Auckland then!

jmma, May 21, 7:14pm
Yes should get them from Repco etc, you will have to remove tierod end to replace rack boot, good on you for doing it yourself, all easy on a mini if you take your time, maybe easier for a girl, smaller hands aye

ladyjet1, May 21, 7:26pm
lol, thanks - I did quite a bit of work on my old one, but I had a mechanic husband as a backup then. I've got a workshop manual which is great but sometimes I just don't get what it says or it doesn't have pictures for me!Just like a recipe book I figure :-)yea they are reasonably simple aye, I just hope the damn thing goes back together after I change the engines over or else I'll be pissed!Yep smaller hands, just love 30+ yr old grease and skinned knuckles!

jmma, May 21, 7:29pm
Well goodluck and just ask on here if you get stuck

tractor9, May 21, 7:29pm
Good on ya and good luck Lady !

ladyjet1, May 21, 7:37pm
aw shucks, thanks fella's :-)

If you want to buy local use BNT rather than repco, or even Appco if there is one (same owner as repco but cheaper for some weird reason).
For most mini specific parts you can buy out of aussie or UK cheaper than locally, including freight.
As far as help, get yourself out of this place and over to ausmini.com All the help you could ever want there.

swift automotive very helpful and know there stuff. Good on ya for taking it on much respect

Try Rimmer Bros UK. Website is easy to use and the exchange rate is pretty good. I buy a lot of parts from there. Usually on my doorstep a week after ordering.

rotormotor7, May 21, 10:17pm
i heard a couple of guys were heading down your way from auckland in a mini apparently selling bits of the car as they go,may have the bits you're after when they get to invercargill.

ladyjet1, May 22, 7:45pm
lol, they've been
http://www.porkpie.co.nz/ and they wouldn't let me have any parts!

ladyjet1, Mar 20, 9:47pm
shouldn't need to import any bits, body's good, engines good (plus I'll have two on the floor) just general maintenance bit's I'll be after.
