Any dozer/hydraulic boys or girls about? mf300

the wee fergie is being a bit temperamental. starts like its new, and days like today works beautifully. occasionally though, doesnt want to steer. if its not that it wants to steer but not go backwards or forwards. no rhyme or reason, slope or temp makes no difference, and the oil/oil pressure is up. what could be causing the intermittent loss of drive and or steering!

There hasn't been a rag, or maybe, even a washer, dropped into the oil reservoir tank! This could be blocking the outlet feeding the control valve !

Also, check the inlet into the main control valve, there might be something floating in the inlet-line, maybe intermittently blocking the main distribution valve!

Good luck in this, random faults are a real b'stard.

dirty old oil and air in the system

1st thing you need to do is get hold of a flow meter and see what the pumpis doing. When it plays up does any other hydraulic function (if you have any) work!

xacoon, May 21, 7:32pm
yeh have all other functions. usually just the steering, occasionally no forward or reverse, but very rarely. was going sweet all morning today, no go this arvo. bloody annoying

mk3zephyr, May 21, 7:47pm
ok pump is all good then, sounds like an issue in the spool valve, is it something mechanical like the levers ( i take it that it is lever steering) not opening and closing the spools!

xacoon, May 21, 7:53pm
foot pedal steering, same deal I suppose, is that someting that would happen intermittently!

mk3zephyr, May 21, 8:08pm
yea same sort of thing, it could be as simple as the spool valve sticking and therefore the oil is bypassing as it normally would back to tank, but check the mechanical function of your foot levers anyway to make sure they are actually operating the spools, just sounds like you are getting no oil down to your drive motors. you may have to trace the pressure lines back from the drive motors and see if they go straight back to the spools. there could also be a diverter valve in those lines that is sometimes sticking and just bypassing the oil back to tank. Also when it plays up are you able to crack the pressure side fitting on the drive motors and work the foot controls to see if you have any fluid leaking under pressure, Just sounds like some sticking valving in there.

sweet, shes parked up till monday but will have a play then. would it have an individual spool valve for each side! as if the steering stops working can't turn either way

Not sure on the shifter set up but its not f/r linkage adjustment is it
