Have bolt on flares I am repairing. Have sanded back and bogged up all lulls and cracks and re-inforced from the inside with bog too (lightweight bog used as discussed a few days ago on here). Problem is I have 3 surfaces to prime now, fibreglass, bog, and paint.
Im way too lazy to sand back all the paint and be left with bog and fibreglass, so thats out of the question.
Question is, Do I need a special type of primer to adhere to all these surfaces (roughed up with 80grit). Or can i just grab a standard automotive filler primer from supercheap or the likes and just spray away. Obviously since they are only flares im just going to go with spray can job to avoid cleaning gears etc being a small job.
Cheers

Cheers
Couple of comments, I thought etch was for metal surfaces that were hard to bond to! And if etch primer is the go, do I really need to use another primer afterwards! Or could I build a couple of layers with etch primer and paint to that!

Cheers mate but a little late, went out to a paint and panel shop and ive got some gold filler primer stuff. He said it wont be awesome but itll do the job, Its only on the racecar which will no doubt get some scrapes so itll be alright I suppose.
Will remember them for next time I need panel or paint products. On a side note, you wouldnt know if they would be interested in sponsoring a racecar would ya mate!

I sure as hell hope the guy you saw didn't give you some Tetrosyl filler. I wouldn't use that to fill the pot holes in my driveway.
As far as sponsorship goes, he may but you would have to put a proposal together. With sponsorships mate you have to make it all 'bout them not what you can get out of it.

I have no idea what the primer is haha.
Cheers mate might set up a proposal for him. Ive already for one small sponsor of a local tyre shop called big value tyres, hes doing all my tyre changes on my spare set of rims etc as I need it done. Bloody good of him.

That stuff you bought will be fine as long as it is a solvent based 1k primer filler/surfacer.
To get all technical on the fibre-glass, you could use a thin plastic etch primer that takes one transparent coat over the bare fibre-glass.
But as long as the flares have been sanded well, then it will be fine. Plastic etch is only really needed over large repairs or brand new fibre-glass panels.
Give the flares a good sand with either 150 or 220/240 grit before you prime them, and you'll get a better result than 80 grit.

Cheers James I went to repco and bought the 2 ton for $199, got it home and it just gets to the jack points with a small amount of clearance on the side of the car (clearance underneath is fine). So all is well there.
Cheers for digging up the info though.

I always liked, and got on well with Nuti.
He always seemed energetic, yet cool, calm, collective and polite.
His job would have been rather high pressure.
