Compare Toyota sales/registrations over that period to anything else not to mention their vast model line up,then take into account NZs love affair with mediocre shitboxes, so of course there are going to be more. Considering up to the 1990s Mercedes had only 3 body styles going at any one time speaks for itself, S class, compact and roadster. And they are properly engineered cars ahead of thier time unlike all Jap shitboxes where the majority are only just catching up with technology Mercedes introduced or utilised in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.

I have to admit to having a soft spot for old Merc's myself. I should have sold my W124 E320 some years back but it's just so damn competent and still fun to drive.
I do like the big 1970s saloons with their glasshouse headlights. Good solid bloke type cars. I understand they are quite simple mechanically and this is the reason they just go and go, basically they are the European Holden or Falcon.
(Before they became all aggro and "look at me" in their styling in the 1980s, and before they got into having every electrical doodad that a salesman's mind could conceive of.)

Just love the old fin tail w111 of the 60's, sadly rust protection wasn't their forte and very few remain in NZ due to our draconian wof regs.

My Dad's 1997 C240 has a shade under 600Ks and still going strong.A few little bits changed, but nothing major mechanically.Interior is a bit tired though.
