we have a 71 bedford motorhome. i have heard we are able to reg it as a vintage now and it is cheaper.
if so how do we go about changing it.
due for cof and reg in a couple of weeks and costs alot to put ks on it.thought if we can save on reg would make a big diff to the cost of keeping it.
will check back tomorrow and see if any answers.thanks

it automatically goes to vintage rego o it's 40th birthday, thats 40 years to the day after first rego, so it depends really on when it was first rego, for example if first reg in Dec, then it will go down in Dec, etc.

Is that 40 years after it was first registered in NZ!

If it is not yet 40, just license it for a part year so when it expires it is 40, otherwise you will pay for the whole 12 months at the none vintage rate.

ok thanks for that.must be coming up sometime this year. had a reminder in post but nothing about it being a vintage.
we normally put a hold on reg over the winter but since new motor went in we use it more.

No.My 1955 car was imported into NZ in 1995 and went onto low-reg status automatically at the same time.

Incorrect sorry. It's in the year of it's anniversary, regardless of when during the year it was first registered.
The reminder won't actually say anything about it being vintage, it just gives the lower rate. What $$ figure was on there!

My '78 Firetruck is registered & insured as a classic not vintage, reg is $68yr & full insurance on $6000 is $200pa.

thats cheap rego, how did ya swing that one,is it farm rego or something. its not even 40 years old yet.please explain.
I have no idea neville. it's just what they charged me so I payed it. I think it's because it's an old firetruck but cant confirm that.
