I'm picking both would have been written off well before 5 years from now. The commy will be worth more as it is heavier.

mk1 escorts with a diff motor would be awesome. Altho the rotary would go ok just be nicer to have piston cosworth engine in there or similar. Cortina be worth more i reckon

I used to own a Lotus Cortina many, many, many years ago.
Was an awesome car for it's time.
But that one needs a transplant.
God, I am showing my age here.

Unlikely either will be selling for much as neither are factory desirable models.
But I have no doubt that in 5-10 years time either could be on TM at some high price for months and not sell like most of the stuff in the Hot Rod section

All depends really, what you'd want to listen to when you decide to sell. The straight talking v8 guys/gals or the backward cap, trouser hanging rotangs.

As a few others have said, go the Cortina! But the tread-plate dash and racing seats ruin it for me. Back seats look great, would put in original front seats done in the same pattern. Chuck out the tread-plate. Chuck the rotang for sure. The commie is just plain ugly and common as muck in any case, whereas nice straight mk1 corties are a rare sight nowadays.

Yep from me too.

I don't think either is going to be worth much, but the one closer to original spec is the better choice for investment value - Holden for me. concourse events like Pebble Beach often see even truely rare cars loose value on things like engine swaps or a history of being pulled apart and put back together different. Taking the chicken cooker out and putting a cosworth engine in isn't going to immediately restore it to "original value"
In saying that, you'd see much more gain just putting the money into a term deposit.
10 years time they probably won't even turn over on the gas we'll be using.

Mk 1 Cortina is already a classic car. If you return to original it will be worth heaps more than the Holden.

I think the Cortina is beyond returning to original. well at least for a respectable budget. Any money you would spend on doing so would detract away from what extra it would be worth in another 5-10 years.

The commie would have been better left as a stock Royal/Calais, assumining it was /is one. But it had a lot of interest. In 5 years time who knows. There not being made anymore so you never know but unlikely to be of any great value apart from the fact it is a V8. Stock is better. Cortina, Shame they butchered it otherwise good investment potential. Even putting it back to orig may not make it worth huge dollers because again its still not orig. But if I was choosing and doing the work to put it back to semi orig myself id go Cortina. Be checking the body big time to see whats hiding under that homer paint job. That could make or break it.
