julz1097, May 15, 8:27pm
i heard from our local vtnz that from 1st of July all scooters will have to have a wof and will have a rego under motorbike not moped so more expense !

berg, May 16, 5:41am
Yep and after mid 2012 you will need a motorbike licence to ride one.

smac, May 16, 6:05am
Nope, you'll need a moped licence.

Just had a look on the LTSA website at the new licensing fees , it now costs a whopping $394.38 a year to ride on the road! up from $80.00 odd dollars, whats wrong with this govt! ACC need to be blown up and rid off! I have a 50cc moped and this sucks, and also drive a diesel hilux truck.I scrimp and save to get buy, but this is political madness!, what do you think!

some one has to pay john feen key to run da show

cocabowla, Jul 2, 7:50pm
according to the information i saw in the paper it went up from $309.99

knobnail1, Jul 2, 8:01pm
registration costs are different to licensing costs, still to bloody high though, not cheap transport anymore, cheaper to rego a private car! political madness! we are turning into a police state i feel.

time for a mass protest'''
every one due for rego put it on hold
and block the main roads,in and out of towns
go to the behive protest, big time!

time to teach john key and his robbing hood mp's a lesson
nz will be a shit hole to live here .very soon.
average wage is too low for all these price rises in the last 2 yrs!

elvis58, Jul 3, 5:43pm
That is what they want, they have a ajenda to sell off ACC with no proof that there is even a financial problem. If there was a problem surely it would be better to start with stopping visitors who come here to ski etc from leaving with a fully funded hospital stay following their "accident. Does that happen elsewhere in the world!

I work hard to provide for my family, i enjoy getting out on bikes, i have 4 old japanese classics, but with the new rego prices iam being forced to have to break the law every now and then to just have some fun on me bikes! basically i feel the governtment dont want any nz,er to have it easy or prosper without hardship. What can we do! i can only ride 1 bike at a time. What can we do about it! sit back and let them do what they like! what does everyone else have to say.

Im interested that so many people gave motorcyclists a hard time when we did the ACC protest ride. All of those people are now complaining that their "cage" rego has gone up with a jump as well. If only more people had attended and told ACC that we would not tollerate such high fees. I do keep my 4 vehicles (2 cars and 2 bikes) all legal but agree the prices are getting out of hand

familiadude, Jul 4, 10:53pm
these new licensing fees are a load of crap some people are finding it hard enough at the moment let alone with this

graham32, Jul 5, 5:43am
mopeds have only gone up to 177 per year, just re licensed mine yesterday

vtecintegra, Jul 5, 6:49am
I'd like to see license costs sharply reduced and the shortfall made up by a RUC type system. That way if you drive a vehicle less you pay less.

Of course those that do large mileage will lose out, but really that's only fair.

I have the worst of both worlds. a 750cc motorbike & a diesel 4wd redg as a van. I've always thought it stupid that a motorbike that can only carry 2 people & has 2 wheels costs so - when a car, van, or ute that can carry soo much more on the road weight & person wise. remember they use that very argument to put fee's up with trucks etc - they put it down to damage & impact on the road. lets face it. it's money gathering & we can't do a thing to stop them. I know I didn't vote this lot in.

petermcg, Jul 5, 10:50am
Im with you on this one how do we get this underway

chippy_45, Jul 5, 10:57am
i havent registerd mine since about november last year lol

noswalg, Jul 5, 11:06am
firstly i'd just like to say i never voted for a national government and secondly this is just a prequel to more price rises from ACC, national is hell bent on privatising this sector and the only way to do it is to hit the hard working where it hurts most, in the pocket!

mopeds, Jul 5, 7:22pm
Mopeds used to cost $61 a year to license now its $170, in percentage terms they've suffered the greatest increase, they've also specified a fee for motorcycles under 61cc which means all the 50cc pocket rockets are going to have to registered as motorcycles whereas previously you could get a away with moped rego.

turton, Feb 23, 8:05am
yes, it is way too expensive, i ride a ninja 650r and have to pay $517 per year! and the stupid thing about it is that i could buy a cbr600rr and it would be cheaper bike to register it! when its much faster then a 650r and therefore way more dangerous. honestly what was the government thinking!
