Great
Now - to charge the 12v set off mains you would connect to just one battery and the other would just charge, Im thinking. To charge 24v you would need to cross the batterys, + on one and - on the other!

Correct, basic electrical knowledge of series and parallel.

I always charge 24v separately as 12v anyway; at least you can identify if 1 battery is dead or dying.

If your charger is 24V they need to be in series (+ to -), if it is 12V they need to be in parallel (+ to +).

Yer, I bought a dual charger from Jaycar for a great price for my 2 12v batteries on my off roader. It chargers the low voltage batt. first then the other. $140. Not sure about the the 24volt though, might need a dirrent unit for this but couldnt cost too much.
