They can (and will) go forever - IF cared for.
The motor is relatively low stressed, and since it has a (relatively) long piston stroke, there is little thrust pressure on the rings, and even less on the main bearings, etc.
With a good oil, such as Castrol Edge 0w-40, or Mobil ONE 0w-40, I see no reason why this motor won't rock on for another 500,000 kilometres. BUT REMEMBER:You need to look after it - and by that I mean regular oil and filter changes.And don't forget the air cleaner.

And don't neglect the coolant. These engines need good coolant of the correct strength.

Yup depending how its treated, its the body that gets costly, mounts, bushes, suspension parts, possibly even rust. But as long as you do your homework it should be fine.
