How can this be. Wof issue

lookgoodfeelgr8, May 11, 8:45am
Friend bought a car from a car dealer in Manurewa and the car had snow tyres on it. My girlfriend did not know this the tyres had good tread so all looked good and a new Wof.However Wof was due again and she has done hardly any kms and when back to the same garage that gave the car a wof when sold. Only to be told they will not give the car a wof as it has snow tyres on it but she said they are the same tyres and you gave the car a wof for the dealer.,. now can this be,!Are snow tyres not allowed,

its a iffi one problem is you cant proof the tyre where on when she purchased the car. there is a new law out about snow tyres, cant recall but i think you need all 4 the same or something and minimum thread is higher or something.
they make laws that are idiodic just for the sake of things most times.
What year is the car!
here the quick info

Its a 2002 Mazda atenzathe dealer has told her it was fine for them to be on the car.

was that before april first purchased!
all 4 need to be snow tyre and all need 4mm minimum thread to pass wof after april first acording to the above link

Sounds to me like another dodgy car dealer and his wof cert mate .its true you are not allowed to blend snow tyres.not much you can do really fact is some car dealers have cosy arrangements with wof certifiers all in the name of the mighty dollar.

lookgoodfeelgr8, May 11, 8:55am
it was purchased 11 October 2010

The snow tyre law is not idiotic it was introduced after a finding where blended snow tyres where found to be a factor in many crashes .

intrade, May 11, 8:58am
be after the rule then question is where all 4 snow!
and what is the threaddebt now !

intrade, May 11, 9:00am
crashes happen because the morons cant drive nothing to do with tyres as you can mix and match tyres on a 1985 car 4 different size tyre and it will pass a wof . thats another idiotic rule (exempt snow tyres )

phalanax, May 11, 9:01am
crash studies showed blended snow tyres are dangerous.boot them.or your car can become unstablein sharp manouvres.

Here is the truth about snow tyres.
they do get soft in summer and can make the ride spongey at 30 degrees ° plus dont matter if you got 2 or 4 fitted it can be dangerous speeding with them tyres at these conditions. Snow tyres rubber compound are designed to work efficient below 16 ° celsius keeping the rubber compound flexible at below 0 ° to give extra grip on snow and ice. Summer tyre on the other hand are dangerous below 3° plus celsius and start to not grip at about 16° + and below. You need to adjust your driving according to these conditions and what tyre you got on at the time. and then you wont crash. that are the real facts.

Factual evidence exists proving blended snow tyres are dangerous.the different compound and treads cause erratic behaviour .the front or rear will slide out easier dependant on where the tyres are fitted due mainly to the fact that snow tyres are made for snow.lol.not high speed open road .and as such the compound they are made of irrespective of tread pattern is harder .snow tyres are for snow.lol

I had a skyline with snow tyres on the rear years ago and it used to drift real easy.i got rid of them and the improved handling was marked.they are dangerous tyresand how anyone can be allowed to use them for other than there intended purpose is beyond my liking.nonetheless tyre imorters must be getting them for a song.

if you believe that the garage that issued the w.o.f has done something wrong ,ask them for a complaint form, all w.o.f authoritys have a compaints procedure that they have to follow for w.o.f auditing with L.T.N.Z.

That is not the issue, there is various reasons why.

crzyhrse, May 11, 4:35pm
Who cares!

woki, May 12, 8:40am
I agree with Kaz . Talk to the dealer !

ct9a, May 12, 8:50am
why even debate it why would you want snow tyres in auckland!

just get a set of 4 new directional tyres

johnf_456, May 12, 11:08am
They might not be able to afford 4 tyres in one big hit.

ct9a, May 12, 12:07pm
whats the price on a life these days!

ct9a, Feb 10, 4:55am
yeah but people would rather spend that on subs and huge ass mufflers then good tyres, suspension or heck even brakes these days
