Mixing antifreeze

had a look at a car today and the antifreeze was brown. It smelt like antifreeze, tasted like antifreeze and all looked normal but it was brown. What could cause this! I had a thought that mixing types of antifreeze could cause this and if that is the case is there any other effects of it! Other reasons I can think of is old antifreeze. Its an sr18de so not sure if it would be a product of corrosion (being alloy block and head)

either corossion colour or some ones mixed green with red antifrezze. If it was mine id dissconect the heater hoses and drain the engine and cooling system and flush out with fresh water. Then refill with new antifrezze.

Mixing certain types of Anti Freeze (red/orange and green) can cause it to react and turn into a jelly like substance.

Seen this with buses, they were imported brand new with european coolant in them, then in the course of normal pre'drive checks have been topped up with whatever the mechanics here have ordered, and the result is an unattractive brown sludge.

It didn't look like the result of oil in the water (head gasket) that we had on the pug 306, it looked 'cleaner' than that did and there was no oil droplets in it. It is an import, been in the country about ten years.
