Offset Help?

jay.da, May 4, 5:32pm
The wheels I have are 5jx13x32 they rub slightly on the rear shock but I am wanting something a little wider like a modgie 13x7 with a offset of et6 what ever that means! any help!

not really, the 13x7 ET6 rim will only move away from the shock by 0.6mm compared to the 13x5 ET32 rim. The 13x7 however will stick out towards the guard by another 51.4mm compared to the 13x5, so you may have guard clearance issues as well as shock clearance issues. Ideally you would want a 0 offset rim with a 7" width.

ps modgies are terrible, they belong on trailers only. go find some other rims which actually look tasteful. just my 2 cents :P

What car!

Cars an old Triumph 2000 mk1, light green cream colour with matching wheels and chrome half hubcaps. Doesn't look to bad but wanting something wider and a deeper dish so it doesn't rub.

usefull image, thanks. On another note, Id also like to know what wheels suit these old Triumphs, though i have a mk2 2500tc , I know that only 7" will fit on the back according to some forums, and id like the extra grip as the wheels imo are just too narrow and quite slippery in the wet

width of the rims has little to do with how much traction you have, have you considered fitting better quality brand new tyres instead! You could have 7" wide rims with equally shit tyres on them and still have traction problems. You'll have to be careful with the rear guards in regards to which rim width and offset you choose - I would be looking at a 6-7" wide rim with a 10-25mm offset. May need a bit of lowering too to get the rear wheels to tuck in with the camber.

That is the problem the car has been lowered slightly and the negative camber makes the tyre rub the rear shock with the standard rims and tyre profile of 185x70x13. So I need something with a negative offset or have to run spacers which i don't want to do. Their is allot of space between the guard and the tyre.
