Big Day yesterday.

stevo2, May 1, 4:53am
My boy has finished his studies at Uni in Welington and wanted to move back home.
Left Tauranga yesterday at 6am. Drove to Wellington and loaded him up (how could anyone amount so much crap in 7 years!). Filled the van completely to the roof and a good load on the trailer.
Left Wellington in the afternoon and got back to Tauranga at 10.30pm.
1100km showing on the odometer at the end of it.
I know some of you will say "thats bugger all, I've done heaps more that that" but its the most I've done on NZ's crap roads, especially in a diesel van and trailer, and a longer day than a truckie's allowed to do.
The Hiace went perfectly though.
Cheers Stevo

why doesn't your son (assuming he's about 21/22 by now) have his own set of wheels! I've had no less than two cars ever since I was 17 and struggle to think how I would even cope with just one car!

That??

oh lordy how I laughed. tis funny but thankfully not quite true for me :P Apart from being an expensive up front cost, and the cost of fuel, the VR-4 has been incredibly trouble-free. The Cortina has given me the most trouble, as did my old Viva. Still would have a supposedly unreliable Japanese car over a British lump :P

Haha. Have you ever lived in Central Wellington Phillip! Its heaps quicker to walk or bus anywhere in the central city than it is to drive and then try to find a park.
Also there is nowhere to park at night apart from a parking building.
ps. he's owned 2 cars before going to Uni, the 1st was a 91 Lancer diesel for getting to shcool which he sold for a 94 Lancer (the rust in the roof model) that he wrote off at 18 years of age.
He now needs to find a job here in Tga and he can buy himself another car.

Cheers Stevo

yeah have never lived in central Wellington but definitely know how Wellington hates car ownership. My brother (sooby) went to tech in Lower Hutt and didn't have a car until after he graduated too. I guess for me my first priority is having a car, and then making sure I have a place to put the car haha. I don't know how I'm going to cope when I go travelling overseas soon!

Even I sold my cars when I lived in Wellington. I just kept the camper and used my Vespa for all my day to day running.

I used to do about 900 km from Auckland to Napier-return in one weekend in my 1982 Mitsubishi Sigma.Used to go down on a Saturday and come back Sunday.Did that about four times a year.
Last year I went to Napier and back in a day in my 1997 Honda Accord.
