Star trekking

So in our world of sci fi there are lots of movies and TV series that are based in the never ending universes around us.
A form of travel we don??

smac, Apr 30, 7:02am
What annoys me more is why you can hear space craft.

gunhand, Apr 30, 8:52am
If you made movies that were completly factual they would be boring and that would be the end of the movie industry. You want reality watch Nat Geo or Discovery channel.
Think of your favourite movie then make it 100% factual and see how exciting it is.
And im sure they just turn up the right way when they detect a starship 300000 light years away LOL.
Real life is quite boring and thats why when they tried having good news on the news it never worked, no one is interested in good news.

ginga4lyfe, Apr 30, 8:55am
v8 mopar, watch Battle Star Galactica, its abit more "real" with the physics department

crzyhrse, Apr 30, 8:57am
I never even thought of that aspect, but you're dead right!

crzyhrse, Apr 30, 8:57am
The real one or the new one!

mrfxit, Apr 30, 9:27am
Ships gravity systems makes the floor in any position the "right way up"
Correct "upright" orientation of both ships makes life a lot easier for both ships crews visually & for transfer of ppl.
In real life (IRL), Correct "upright" orientation of both ships would probably partly depend on who spotted who 1st & whether there was to be any interaction between the ships.
Yep need that Hollywood sound effects to link the viewers to the ships actions.
IRL, there possibly would be some sound heard but within VERY close proximity to the engines exhaust & certainly from within the ship concerned.

Gas powered systems (any liquid, frozen/solid or not, burning/exploding ) produces a physical wave , therefore it's own atmosphere container
Gravity & magnetic powered would possibly produce a Gravity & magnetic wave effect on surrounding matter

Maybe it will become customary that when two ships meet, the smaller ship aligns itself to be the same way up as the bigger ship!

purple666, Apr 30, 12:56pm
Not to mention how slow their laser cannons are

un_known, Apr 30, 12:58pm
and why do space fighters have wings!

mrfxit, Apr 30, 1:06pm
Better thruster control positions

brummoi, Apr 30, 1:08pm
and how inaccurate

gunhand, Apr 30, 1:44pm
Oh I dont know. The good guy always wins in the end. And there not doodling round at 100mph prob mach 12or 2000kms per second or however they measure it up there. Be no diff than old dog fight in spitfires and so on.

rustihammer, Apr 30, 1:57pm
So they can fly and land in planets atmospheres! Plus they look better. imagine everyone fighting in oblong blobs.

un_known, Apr 30, 3:14pm
oh comeon they would use directional thrusters for that like they would have to manuever in space.Every planet is going to have an atmosphere of different density so the wings would only be useful in atmospheres it would have been designed in.however according to stargate every planet looks like the american northwest has a breathable atmosphere and a nice yellow sun.

richardmayes, Apr 30, 3:26pm
Most planets worth having a war over probably have a breathable atmosphere that earth-type wings would work alright in!

In space wings are just gun brackets. for maneuverability in dogfighting in space you'd think they'd be better off without wings, as they increase your rotational inertia making it harder to turn.

Star Wars type combat is clearly modelled on WW2 air combat movies.
Star Trek type combat is clearly modelled on Cold War submarine / WW2 navalcombat movies.

v8_mopar, Apr 30, 3:40pm
Prob not far off there!

alimac1, Apr 30, 4:48pm
I can't understand why whenever a spaceship gets damaged, steam comes out. You'd thing they'd have advanced beyond steam power.

gunhand, Apr 30, 4:54pm
Its not steam .it will be air con gas.

richardmayes, Dec 28, 9:47pm
A coal-burning ship of the 19th century uses steam to make the power, and a nuclear submarine of the 21st century still uses steam to make the power. You can't blame sci-fi animators for assuming steam is pretty essential no matter how you make power.
