It means the vehicle has to be inspected, to the same degree as a second hand vehicle that has arrived in NZ before it is deemed road worthy.

It happens to a lot of cars that are un-registered for too long.

And the re-inspection is much more involved than a simple warrant of fitness.

Why has a 2005 Hilux been de-reg! Has it been accident damaged and written off! In case it will require a repair cert on top of the re-compliance cost (approx $400), then a minimum of 6 months rego ($300-600 depending if petrol/diesel). Plus any repairs or maintenance it needs to pass, ie brakes, shocks, bushes, tyres etc.

was it registered in nz i guess so as you ask about recomply .
because if it never was regod it myght not ever be allowed to be used on the road.
The rules are getting tuffer by the day and no one is telling anyone officially .this is a slight exaturation but recomply is subject to similar rules as fresh imports.so airbag and all structural stripping for inspection will be done it used to cost about a grand for test 400$ plates and licensing the rest. that dont includes any faild work to be done like newbrakes all round the vehicle etc .

now if it was a fresh import it be also subject to emiision testing yes right its why no mucht diesel apart from euros and brand new japas diesel are now only for sale as fresh imports. its euro 3 ,4 or alredy higher by now to pass and fail means its scrap or parts only. this is not for revinning you do need proof it was regod before however .
