the problem is the more that search for "happiness at the petrol pump" the more everyone else pays for such a car, so yes you can expect to pay that for a 96

I would say between $2000-2500 for one with over 170k kms to be honest. I just sold my '93 Domani 1.6 auto sedan done 142,000kms on $1res and it ended up at $2355 which I felt was a good fair value.

People are dumping large cars like vermin, you can pick up some wicked nice BMW V8s and stuff cheap. My dad has a 560sec merc he wants to sell, that would be a towcar and a half.

Yeah but they cost more to run than I'm prepared to pay.

Can you drive a manual!I have spotted a real bargain for $2500 but it is out of town.

Nope - that's the other clincher, gotta be an auto.

I love big cars though. Go tank or go home.

Thanks for the suggestion!I guess I really don't have the time or inclination to get something that needs work.I bought the subie I have now off a mechanic and it's had problem after problem and I've given up, I just want to get something neat and tidy that isn't going to cause me any further nightmares.

That being the case you sure as hell don't want a Clio.

The first Civic definitely is, the second isn't (1300cc would be painfully slow).
I sold a slightly older Civic for a friend of my Mum's the other week, for just over $2k and the phone went insane from the moment I listed it.It was an excellent little car to drive, and I am sure that it will be worth the same amount of money in another few years time too.
I'm not a fan of automatics, but this Civic was very nice to drive.
Avoid the CVT Civics, they can get a bit ugly. One I test drove I swear was about to expire right there and then.
