+1 We are waiting.

Well I actually have a bit of the flu, but since your stubborn I will have to do my best. Your talking about aftermarket fans which is different to factory fans. Some fans end up making the outside case live by reversing the polarity which is what I am getting at, however this is not the case for all fans. As per bigfatman statement, the orgianal statement by pdc is mostly true but not fully true

smac, Apr 27, 7:31am
I am quite sure the irony of this passes you buy.

PDC1 writes a perfectly valid post, that COULD be seen to be more complete if it made mention that not all fans should be reversed. You write that advice off, but can't be bothered completing your post explaining why you think it's bad advice.

Edit: when I say irony I am being charitable (because you have the 'flu.),hypocrisy would be a better word.

johnf_456, Apr 27, 7:36am
Well maybe it was a bit over the top but its still not 100% good advice as per the fact not all fans can be reversed as we both noted. If he said blah blah and said on a side note not all fans can be reversed then that would be good advice. But that is not the case here which is why I am saying its not good advice in the fact part of it is in correct.

lol what a load of shit pulled some off the shelf read instructions. turn fan blades round is all it says depending on push pull arrangement

smac, Apr 27, 9:41am
Right, so you know more about the fans I've seen that I do! Which make/models am I talking about! Pull your head in sunshine.

SO you've got a fan there where the shroud allows it to fit against the radiator on either side (of the shroud)! i.e. the shroud is symmetrical! This would definitely be abnormal.what make/model!

bigfatmat1, Apr 27, 10:01am
yes I have and I have valeo and jay air after market fans here at work It would appear I do know more than you being part of my job and all. No need to resort to personal attacks.

smac, Apr 27, 10:05am
There was no personal attack, merely a response to you saying I was full of shit which I thought a little out of line.

Turning the fan over on the motor shaft does not reverse the pitch.

sallyjoy, Apr 27, 10:43am
moving away from the original question.I think some old bulldozers had a winter option where you could reverse the fan so it would suck thru the radiator and blow over the motor and onto the driver. to keep him warm.

pdc1, Apr 27, 12:44pm
Thanks for the good laugh, at your expense. Changing the pitch to reverse has just changed the direction push/pull of the fan. It is not the same argument!
Purely this is about turning over a fixed blade fan assembly, not about running electric motors backwards, or anything else.
If you can't see it, take the time to get a fan and try it out. Spin the same direction, and see which way the air goes. Now turn the blade assembly around and spin the same direction and note which way the air goes. It doesn't make the air go the other way.
Pretty simple stuff - although may not be for some of you!
Thanks for the others support. The answer is very easy. The flow still goes the same way. Stop making dicks of yourself.

As the OP #1, thanks for the answers.but I never fail to be amazed at how easy it is to start a scrap on TME message boards.Who would have thought that a question about radiator fans would get posters slinging insults at one another!

gofer0007, Apr 27, 1:59pm
Haha true, backs my reason to make people pay to to surf trade me to weed out the simple ones who should be allowed out in the open! As for the fans.I have a reverable hydraulic fan change direction to blow leaves and dirt out the radiator when getting blocked.

Very true
