Grrrr!Drove our team van part way back from Rotorua today. The placement of the WoF (and service sticker) on the top right of the screen, totally blots out a clear view - especially on right hand bends.
WHY are they placed on the upper right, when the rego is on the lower left!
All my own vehicles have it placed lower left, well out of the line of sight - even though the occasional WoF inspector throws a wobbly.

Because they said. just do as you're told, OK!

Yip I do the same, I am pretty tall and the wof "up there" annoys the crap out of me.

Because its the easiest place to put it, you do however get the odd inspector that puts it on the lower right.Given how strong the glue is on the labels they can be hard to remove from the lower right corner sometimes. It doesn't matter whether it is top or bottom as long as it is on the drivers side of the vehicle. If you wanted it put on the lower right side you should have requested it.

It was the OP's team van not his vehicle, he noticed the placement while he was using it. He did not get a wof for it.

Thank you John.
Yes, I am tall too.The other two drivers didn't notice it as they are shorter. Its not just the easiest place it put it, it is where they are told to put it as per #2.

Have found the same in my van too. When I mentioned to my wof guy he gave me the sticker and said "all yours to place wherever suits you best". Placed it lower right and sweet as.

Hire vehicles have them top center.

Thats because they are COF's, not WOF's, thats a different matter entirely. But why that is the case and that WOF's must be attached to the drivers side is anyones guess.More often that not putting it behind the interior mirror is the best idea, it doesn't impair anyones vision then.

Correct

It was decided to put the WOF sticker on the righthand sisde, so that the cop can have a legitimate reason to lean into your vehicle, and he can also then get a good sniff of your breath.
And, that was from the 'horse's mouth'.
In my vehicle, I usually put them on myself, and I always put them in the right-lower corner. They are always in my eye-line up the top of the screen -- a right P.I.T.A.

Have seen a few vehicles with the Wof in the center, spose it's the same story as putting them down the bottom, a preference allowed by a nice inspector.

They are also ment to be on the drivers side.

Mine was put top right and i hate it. Prefer them to put it lowerright. When at the top, I cant see the traffic lights. I have to try and twist around to see when the light changes

so why arent the rego stikers on the right too! i like how they do it aussie.ONE reg/wof sticker on the left side window somewhere. i can't see traffic lights in sports car when the wof sticker is tp right.
WOF stickers are top right to make them easier for cop to check at checkpoints. Likewise, rego are bottom left to help the councils fundraisers claim $200 donations from you if you forget to put the right label at the top

So youre suggesting a cop doesnt check rego and a parking warden doesnt check warrants. i wish I lived in your town!

socram. was it AA! I told them to move mine to the top corner of the screen so I could see cyclists etc and trimmed of the advertising overlay as well.

Yeah pretty much. In the past I have had no rego tickets from parking wardens on vehicles with no wof or reg. So maybe they dont check WOF in New Plymouth.

"The WoF label must be attached to the inside of the windscreen, on the same side as the steering wheel, and must be clearly visible from outside the vehicle. The recommended position is in the top corner of the windscreen."
From post #17 - and thanks for that, it is a useful link. From the above, 1 cm to the right of centre behind the rear view mirror would seem to be both practical and legal for aright hand drive vehicle.
However, note that the word is "recommended" not mandatory - which is one argument the occasional WoF inspector is going to lose!
I still prefer the whole of the right side of the screen clear, not just the top. The shape of the screen (especially if steeply raked) or wide screen pillars or on several sports cars, it is still not a good place to put it.
Police can stop you any time they like and they may well have done a vehicle check before they even pull you down.
Combining rego and WoF has its problems, but the UK system works well enough. You have just one rego sticker but to get that you have to show evidence of both a current MoT/WoF and valid insurance before you get it.If stopped by the police, they can demand you show a current WoF at a police station of your choice within 5 days - which is just great if you are a day or two over! Things may have changed in recent years though.

same in aussie socram.1 year rego's which include a wof and insurance. .oh and you can't renew your rego or drivers licence if you have outstanding fines or parking tickets! ha ha
mrcat1,
Apr 23, 3:25pm
Yes, rental cars and taxis etc the COF is in the middle but on heavy vehicles it is on the drivers side like warrants.
sandypheet,
Apr 23, 4:50pm
Nah,they are ment to be on the drivers side just like the wof sticker. The cof label is changing to the same style as the wof sticker shortly.
