well VTEC is very simple, first fit a VTEC engine, then insert boyracer in the drivers seat. now the way it works is very simple. whenever said boyracer floors it, the car farts hence attacting attention to the boyracer.

It simply allows the engine to choose between two camshaft profiles (in the most basic way of describing it).

Using lobes (oval bumps sort of) the camshaft opens the valves which control petrol in and exhaust out (with a bang in the middle caused by the spark plug firing).If you are at low rpms, then it is good to have the petrol intake happening at one point, and the exhaust at another.When you are at higher rpms, it is better to change when the intake and exhaust valves open.As the camshaft is made of a solid piece of metal, that can't be adjusted, so the VTEC in effect swaps between two seperate sets of lobes on the cam - this is my understanding anyway :-)

It is just a lock pin that shoots across into the central rocker arm locking it against the outer valve rockers for the central cam lobe to operate. Before that I believe the 2 smaller lobes actually have different lift to induce turbulence in the cylinder. Setting the rocker clearances on those heads is a biyatch, hard to get the feeler gauge down into the space
Besides everybody knows it works by "kicking in" VTEC just kicks in yo.
Isnt it the thing in the xorst pipe that makes it go from tinny to sounding like it suddenly got some balls!
