Best way to take tints off

roryton, Apr 21, 1:44pm
from the window! The dkhead I bought car from had illegal tints on the car after passing warrant, now I have to take it off to get a new wof. Any bright ideas!
Triedpeeling off with fingers and knife but getting scratches. Thought I'll ask you old and wise experienced motor people.

actually it doesn't tell you how to remove the whole thing. Someone suggested using hair dryer so it loosens the glue and peel it off. hmm.

use prepsol/turps etc that kinda stuff to remove glue

I have used a heatgun to soften the adhesive a bit and then pulled of the entire sheet. I started in one corner with a razor blade and after that just pulled gently. A bit of thinners, turps or something on a rag will help take the glue residue off the bare glass.

If you get the film too hot it leaves more adhesive residue on the glass so experiment.

chemz brand window cleaner turns tint to jelly. if you get stuck spray with this stuff then attack with a blade, it'll come off easy

i've had the same problem. I just used a blade from a stanley knife and took my time. But then again, it was only the back windows. Took about 1hr and a bit if i remember.

just rip them off ,then get a razorblade.preferably in a holder and peel off glue, what doesn't come off.get some kero on a rag and with elbow grease windows will be like new, messy job .be careful if they have put tint overlay over heated rear window.don't go scrapping off the element.

When I removed mine, I peeled the worst off (go very slowly so the glue also peels off), then use turps or kero or something on a rag and rubbed the rest off.Took about 25 minutes per side window.

We regularly take them off where I work in compliance. We have one of those steam things that you use to take wallpaper off. Have that steaming on the outside of the glass, then someone on the inside uses a razor blade to slit the film and pull off where it is being steamed, gradually and carefully working your way across the window.Hope that helps.
