thank you guys. I am sure it is not turboed so it is 130HP. Goes like a rocket - so thought it must be bigger

Oh, well if it's a rocket you'd really want to know the thrust.

True that.
Actually the TORQUE is more likely the apple you are after. The HP is a resultant of the RPM's.
As it is a diesel you won't get the 205Kw Figure that a small Japanese car engine can give you.

no you are losing me LOL. Flies up hills that the Fuso died on and gotta love power steering. Thanks all of you for your help

Okay. If we could find a Graph for the Fuso you may well see that the Torque plot is nowhere near that of the Isuzu. But then Graphs are "Cartoons for Captains". Real world seat of the pants is much better for the regular folk.

Engine size is pretty much meaningless in this day and age, a well-designed small engine such as a 1.2 litre Punto will produce just as much power as any 6.5 litre diesel.

We had an Isuzu with a similar sized engine years ago N/A and it was around 150-170HP I recall . 6-BD1 engine type seems to ring a bell!

Japanese truck that goes like a rocket, that should be a new tui billboard.

Yet the 6.5 litre diesel will outperform the 1.2 litre punto in almost every way.
I saw my first multipla this weekend too, coming down the north side of the rimutaka hill

Well, this is what the .com link says. NZ model might have a few more.

6 BG1 would be it. ;)

Ah.Size and HP are meaningless. Its a horse float, so it has never gone faster than 74km/h.Ever.

Modern diesels can though - the big Duramax in the Chev pickups is 365hp and BMW has got 300hp+ out of the 3l in its cars.

My 15litre 5 cylinder Gardner is only 92 hp, but then again it red lines at 800rpm. lol.

not to mention your torque figures.
hotrodtodd1,

Which is why people with big old Chevvy trucks with 6.5turbo diesels are removing the diesels and replacing them with the 1.2 Punto engines.
In our street alone, there are 4 of those 6.5 engines in the recycle bins and Punto engine prices have gone thru the roof.
Richard, enjoy your Tui

he got a point its not a punto or what ever make. a 1.2 liter vw tdi engine can have 90bhp and almost as much torque as a diesel with 4 to 5 times the size. like a 1.9tdi chipuned with 180bhpway more then a big old 6 cilinder japanese diesel the size means nothing as new technology has managed to get way more power out of way smaller engines.what is more reliable is another question all togather.

Oh . & what does the job with the least fuss

Nicely said. Incidentally, reliability wise I can't speak for makes of which I have no experience but I would take the reliability of the Fiat or VW common rail diesel over any old Japanese diesel (found in road cars and light commercials) any day of the week.
I would also much rather be servicing the above engines.
