Well for powdercoat thegalv will need to be stripped off .

There are good powder coaters and there are bad powder coaters.I had my tubular chassis done back in 1993 (some new, some old metal) and wasn't happy at all, so I took it back.It was sand-blasted, re-done and is still perfect.

While it may not be relevant to what you are trying to achieve CMX: I painted some of the galv gas pipes and brackets here (we are coastal and get heaps of salt) and the painted galv is rusty as hell after 12 years. The unpainted galv (installed at the same time) still looks good.
I see that some people like to paint their galvanized boat trailers, but I wouldn't do it.
Anyway, the above is not what you asked about, but I thought I would mention it

Well #5 i wanted some galv fan grillespowdercoated ( actually the client did )butcoaters insisted on them being sand blasted to bare metalfirst .
