Only if you wish to. Or do you mean inner and outer!

my son's passenger side cv was clicking going around corners so we booked it in to get fixed. But I was surprised that they said to only do one as I thought you should really do both at the same time. like brakes.
Years ago, I took my lil car to have the drivers cv done and the mechanic said the did both at the same time, so I am confused.
I am pretty sure it is the outer one. the one behind the "boot"
Oh sorry, I get what you mean. Yes the outer on both sides

CV joints usually break if the rubber boot around them tears, and the grease in them gets out.
If only one joint has a torn boot, just replace that joint.

you replace a cv if its rooted supercheap auto is the cheapest place to get the pert next cheapest is partsmaster.you dont replace something that is not worn out. usually only outer cv get rooted. rootet cv usually make clickering noise on full lock.

Thanks, It has been replaced.
The problem now is that there is a hell of a shudder coming from that wheel. it has the mechanic baffled.
It feels like the wheel nuts are loose, but they aren't.They took off the whole cv again to check every thing and it all looks good.
they did find that the engine mount is broken but can't find where this shudder is coming from.
They are a well known shop with a good reputation and have never seen this before.
It is a96 Subaru legacy.
They are going to take off the new cv and put the old one back on to see if the shudder goes away.
Do you think the shudder (noiseless) could be from the broken mount.
The shudder is worse when doing a swooping right hand corner.
The replaced cv is the passenger side.
Thanks

Try swapping the wheels round and see if it moves/improves/goes away/gets worse!

Got caught a while ago with a similar problem. Turned out that while the outer joint was being replaced, the inner one slipped out and a piece fell off but never actually fell on the floor because the rubber boot held it in. In other words, check that the inner CV is still all OK. Having said all that, it was a Peugeot, so the deck was stacked against me!

Just to let you know. the problem has been solved.
seems that the new CV was dodgy. They have changed it to a new, new cv and all is fine.
Happens sometimes. Thanks for all your help. Must be frustrating being a mechanic sometimes.
Again, thanks for all the help, Cheers
