supersheep auto sell transcooler kits. you also want to change your trans fluid and filter . smelling transfluid its probably black andnot red nice red no more now. on trans dipstick. you also mesure the trans fluid with motor idle. i guess on these still.

the fluid is still red, appears to be fairly recent, but no one knows when it was last changed if ever. i would do it myself but i dont have the time anymore so id need someone to do it for me. are the supercheap ones any good! i dont like buying crap, prefer to pay more and get it done properly

automatic transmission rebuild placesis what i would probably get the job done if you cant do it. myght pay to get few quotes auckland is likely the cheapest. unless there are some good ones in new plymouth dont know up here we have only 1 good autotrans place others are huge ripoff artists.

im unsure of any automotive places here as ive just moved here. if it ends up being too expensive it may have to wait til i get time to do it myself. are the filters just normal ones that are bolted up inside the gearbox sump!

depending on gearbox most auto trans have a cover under the box you drain the red trans fluid remove cover clean cover that has likely 2 or so magnets with engine degreser and hot water then dry it with a paper-towl so you could eat from it. while all this is done you undo the filter under the cover more transfluid will swap out if the filter is slight blocked. you binn the filter remove the gasket if it remains on box. then refit filter gasket and sump plate . fill 3 liter trans fluid remove return hose of the radiator bottom and fire it up poking the return in a bucket till all dark fluid is gone and nice red transfluid apears. then you can reconnect the hose or fit the new cooler and fill another 2 liter trans fluid in beforeyou purge the new cooler with now closed system then you keep filling1 liter after another and mesure each time if the system is full already . parts for job. do it your self will be 10$ sump gasket 25 to 45$ trans filter and 15 liter fresh trans fluid. you have to flush it with about 12 liter after service and the rest of a 5liter container is for topup to correct level 5L trans fluid at supersheep 7$ per liter abouts 120$ when on special for 15 liter so about 160$ for servicing parts plus trans coolernother 100$ at a guess so thats at least 260$ parts only to consider if anyone will do it to cheap then you can be sure the job wont be done right as it is impossibile. these are the cheapest part prices you wont get it cheaper normaly a 25$ trans filter is sold retail for 65$ . you would likely get the cheap prices also direct from trans rebuild place only like i get em from advanced automatics whangarei.

above isfull instructions to do it your self if you cant work it out then better dont do it and check your trans fluid is not black if it isi would recommendnot to tow anything and get the service and cooler fitted soonest. doing it wrong can also root your trans after. best to have acar hoist for this op absolut no dirt must enter the geagbox at any time.

yea, i know about being spotless, ive done a few rebuilds on mercs. it sounds simple enough. might get it done somewhere outside new plymouth tho. i take 3 monthly trips to dargaville so i could get it done anywhere between here and there. i just want it done properly.

Good instructions there from intrade, thats exactly what a DIY person should do, SCA sometimes do good specials on the oil, take advantage of it, even their normal retail is far less than Ripco's.Or alternatively have a wander along to BNT and see what they've got, the 20L Fuchs packs they have there are often a good buy, you often have to put at least 12-15L through them to get the fluid properly clean. Its also a good idea to have a large drain tray when you come to take the pan off, it gets bloody messy if you haven't got one.I use one of those large oven tray drawer things and it works perfectly.
