back to the question, if the current car is due for replacement and a smaller one does all thats required of it in this economic situation why not!

moosie_21, Apr 15, 1:53pm
I can gladly say I will still be putting my foot to the floor and "wasting" as much gas as I can, as I always have. I would rather have my trusty car than trade it in for a nana-mobile. Last time I checked this wasn't America and we didn't panic at every little thing, but seems times are changing a bit.

Yep, back to the topic.

Logic is the answer.

If you paid 12 grand for the big car and sell/trade it for 6 grand plus pay another 6 grand on top for the small economical car you are 12 grand out of pocket. If you are saving 20 bucks a week in gas how long is it going to take before you are back in the black !

i struck it lucky in 2005 and managed to straight swap my '94 eb2 fairmont 4L for a '94 corona glx liftback on here. was running my own business so didnt have time to get away, fairmont was just running around local and fuel was starting its big upward trend and would have started costing to much to run for just round towning. bit late now after the horse has bolted so to speak, the unscrupulous dealers will no doubt be rubbing their hands in glee.

General Motors Holden. Remember when they put that awful 4 cylinder motor in the Commodore a few years back when there was a "fuel crisis"!They knew and were proved right that the public (oh heck that's you and me!) would buy it to save fuel.It proved to use more fuel and was a dog that could barely get up a steepish hill.So much so that you had to change down and thus use more fuel in places where almost any other car would cruise on at low revs in top.We never owned one but knew some who did.
