Canonball run, has there ever been one in nz?

gunhand, Apr 14, 3:30pm
I know there was going to be one a few years back but the law got wind of it as did the media and as far as I know it never went ahead.
It would be interesting to do a top to bottom, eeer, time trial relying on cunning plans and short cuts and generally good driving skills.

Auckland to Wellington or back was the thing to do in the '80's - getting into the 5 hour bracket was considered a good time.

I man in Palmy told me that he holds the NZ Top to Bottom record. The car was flown over Cook Strait in a Bristol Freighter aircraft. He thought no-one would ever beat his time due to lack of suitable aircraft. I gathered he had done this in the 1960's.

It was attempted by members of ClubSub a few years back.Apparantly it didn't go to plan, by the time most of them had run to the bottom end most of them had run their bottom ends, as well as a few head gaskets.

There was "Devil's Run" that got loads of negative publicity with some Lambo guy having his licence taken off him that got nicely televised, along with some other antics.

never was into cars at all during my twenties

was a 10% bike rider. as in only 10% of my travels were on 4 wheels

what i found killed your average speed was the slowing down for towns.to get an average speed of 100 mp/h, you had to be a flippen demon. every single slowdown winds down your average
