traded the volvo V70, convinced the missus that a 5 series wasn't too big for her and so now we're in the BMW family. Just wondered if any fellow owners had recommendations for places to get it serviced in Auckland (preferably north shore). have to get it serviced within 3 months as per warranty i got with it. thanks!

Burger's Motor works, 95 Wairau Road I have had EXCELLENT service form them

saxman99, Apr 13, 12:33pm
Good on ya mate, one more of us and one less of them.

tekaholics, Apr 13, 12:51pm
scrap yards are good places to start

trogedon, Apr 13, 1:16pm
You could get a 7 series for FREE. I rode past a burnt out one on Coulter Road in Henderson Valley. I stopped on the way back to write it down and phoned the council when I got home. Damned car thieves burning out someone??

A wise man ,seen the light, welcome tonew beamer owner , i had a volvo once but all my friends laughed at me so i sold it

hutchk, Apr 13, 1:57pm
Real men drive Jaguars.

curlcrown, Apr 13, 2:00pm
That was my first thought, but he got out of a volvo so its not all bad.

rovercitroen, Apr 13, 2:08pm
OP. What engined 5 series did you get and which model (E39!). What does it drive like as I am considering an E39 5 series as a possible buy.

cantab1971, Apr 13, 2:18pm
Hi Rovercitroen. its a 2003 525i (so yep E39, the last of them I think. I actually reckon they look nicer than the E60's). some folk said they might be a bit underpowered but it seems to have plenty of grunt to me.its not going to beat any boy racers of course :)The drive and handling are really nice. Heavier steering than my volvo was, but not too heavy. not sure how else to describe it :)I got this one over others with bigger engines because it's in such immaculate condition and my misses translated the logbook that the japanese owner left with it and its been cared for since birth :)I love it.but its early days, I have zero knowledge of cars and limited luck.it could still explode in the driveway overnight.

welcome to the family cantab1971. if you haven't, try joining bimmersport.co.nz. someone there will show you to a few great mechanics in auckland, although being in dunedin i don't have any personal experience with them.

rovercitroen, Apr 13, 2:57pm
Thanks cantab. I had an E38 740i a couple of years ago and liked it hence why I am considering an E39. However I like the X300 and X308 Jaguars too. Decisions, decisions.

trogedon, Apr 13, 4:26pm
How come you've got one!!

sr2, Apr 13, 4:46pm
Welcome to club mate, I??

rustihammer, Apr 13, 6:51pm
Nothing wrong with BM's!

phillip.weston, Apr 13, 6:54pm
That XK8 of ours has your name written all over it ;)

rojill, Apr 13, 6:54pm
Lift up the rear seats and check out the black boxes and the wiring.

Hope you can afford to have it repaired !

px, Apr 14, 8:57am
The black boxes! That's called a battery. Why would you need to repair a battery or repair wires! Do the rats eat them!

ginga4lyfe, Apr 14, 9:01am
have you ever been under the seat of a 5 series! its actually the control box, the battery is also there but on the drivers side

cantab1971, Apr 14, 9:50am
eh! the battery's in the boot.

ginga4lyfe, Apr 14, 9:54am
what model do you have! the few that i have seen have had the battery under the seat drivers side

cantab1971, Apr 14, 11:37am
hiya Papa. Carson wholesale traded it (Grey lynn). said they probably wouldn't sell it themselves tho - would move it on somewhere.

richard198, Apr 14, 3:08pm
Congrats. on the new BMW! I remember you asking about this earlier. The one you have has the best engine ever. What was the mileage/price!

bundies1, Apr 14, 3:17pm
I second that. Fantastic service

cantab1971, Apr 14, 4:42pm
thanks richard. 68k and 18k respectively :)we're still marvelling at how immaculate its been kept too though. my daughter is peeved because i won't let her eat iceblocks in it etc.
