Options for playing MP3's

right. back i come to the motoring board for advice.hopefully some of you motorheads are young or trendy enough for this one (just kidding).ok - car with no auxillary audio input on its sound system for my MP3 player. wondering what the options are. I thought i'd heard of mp3 players that can broadcast a radio signal so that you can just tune the car's stereo into it! anyone got any experience with that! cheers

I know you can get a plug in for Ipods that do that , not sure of other mp3 players . you can get a little device that plugs into the lighter socket and you plug a USB stick into it , it then broadcasts it over radiowaves , might be cheaper

yeh you can just get an fm transmitter they plug into the headphone jack so will work with any device.you can pick one up from any electronics store, warehouse etc. you can also get ones that are a charger and transmitter built in.

Yes, I have a couple. One is just a transmitter, plug it into your MP3 player (iPod, whatever) with standard 3.5mm jack.Runs of battery or lighter socket. The other is an MP3 player and transmitter in one, plugs into lighter socket and takes SD card or USB.

Both work fine.

However, I eventually decided to just put in a head unit with SD card.Tidier and because the lighter socket in my car is powered all the time, didn't have to worry about leaving the transmitter switched on and coming back to a flat battery.

Just get a headunit with an AUX input, don't fiddle aorund with those stupid radion transmitter things. The audio will be a billion times clearer if you can plug it in and go.

100% agree, those transmitters are pretty rubishy. And if you can't hear the difference you are deaf. My panasonic mp3 head unit with aux in for my work van was $99 for harvey norman.

Agree about the transmitters. Also if the sound system has a cassette deck (remember those) you can get reasonably good quality by using a cassette adaptor

You'd have to be coming back to your car a fair few weeks later for a little transmitter to drain the battery.

what car! what stereo!

some steros that you can fit an optional CD stacker too will also accept an MP3 player adptor. you simply plug the adaptor into the cd changer port and away you go.
basic mp3 capable head units are so cheap now, why not just buy one of those instead.

+1 Head decks with aux in are cheap as now days, only go adaptors if you really have to IE the car cannot take a aftermarket head deck.
