Another reason I'd never buy a new car; worst investment EVER!

According to what info I've got here, the list price for an auto Coupe GT was $54500 in January 1985, it was the "Quattro without the Quattro", you needed $68K to get into one of those.Out of interest at the same time a Mitsubishi Starion cost $45K, as did a series 3 RX7, a standard 1800cc auto Prelude was $38K, a Nissan 300ZX was $60K and a BMW 6 series coupe was $110K.

They sold for $51000 in auto and $50000 in manual.A Quattro Turbo was $95000 .Info from NZ Identicar

Bugger its an auto.
In 1988 my parents bought a house in Wellington for around $180k. It was about the same price as a Mercedes 560SEC at the time. In 05 I bought one of those Mercedes for $7800, sold it two years later for 10 grand. My parents old house was on the market last month with a RV of $780k!
The biggest depreciators would have to be the BMW 750iL. Can pick them up for 2-3grand these days.

BMW 740i was 200k new in 1995. A very good one now with not too many kms is still a lovely car at about 6 - 7k.

Rover 75 Conniseur was 68k new in 1999. Nice cars but you can hardly give them away now. Look how cheap 10 year old Jags are compared to their new price. People are scared of the servicing and repair costs which depresses the value.
